How does Reaper work
Do you have to be adjacent to an enemy or within blue movement distance. Does it allow you to attack another enemy after a successfull hit.

From what I can remember the enemy has to be in blue moving distance (yellow with run and gun) but you have to position the cursor so it shows a sword symbol.

Yes it does, you basically chain attacks until you either miss/don't activate the attack and just move next to them/don't kill them or are not in range of any enemies.

1.)Activate skill
2.)Sword attack enemy 1 if you kill them you get a bonus action that you can do anything with.
3.)Attack enemy 2 with sword if you score a kill get a bonus action.

This goes on and on basically your a pinball going from one enemy to another and killing them the chain keeps going so long as you keep scoring kills with your sword if you stop scoring kills then Reaper ends. Also each kill you make lowers the damage of your sword by a little bit making it harder to keep chaining kills this is so you can't kill 30 enemies in one go however it is extremely powerful.

As long as you get a kill with Slash, you get to keep taking actions. As soon as you don't get a kill, you're done. Great for mopping up after an grenadier ambushes a pod.

Reaper also ensures that the first attack ALWAYS hits( despite it being able to be dodged). I find it to not be a good choice overall however.
IF you can ensure that you don't reveal other pods, that the sword attack(after the first) hits and that the attack doesn't get dodged which significantly reduces the damage of the sword ( that already scales poorly compared with the other weapons) even further then it essentially does what Serial does.
Serial(Sharpshooter) seems better in every way as it doesn't require you to take unnessesary risks and deals significantly more damage ( as only crit chance is reduced which is already low on the sword).
And Rapid Fire as direct alternative gives you great single target killing potential. With Talon Rounds and a Laser sight you can wish Gatekeepers and Sectopods easily goodbye.

Not saying Reaper is better then Serial just that it is powerful in it's own right. I don't particularly like swords cause as you said their damage falls off bad but Reaper is nice in that it is a melee Serial.

But Serial has alot of the same problems minus the risk of exposing other pods since your shooting from range but both require you to keep killing or you'll lose the effect. This means in both cases I need to weaken enemies first since neither a sword or sniper rifle will one shot a enemy in mid game onward unless the sniper gets lucky and gets an execution proc which is unlikely.

Step 1: Activate Reaper
Step 2: Kill an enemy by melee (this attack cannot miss)
Step 3: Bonus melee attack on another enemy
Step 4: Repeat step 2-4 as long as each attack kills the enemy

Reaper is easier to set up. Just throw a grenade into the mix and you're all set.

The thing with Snipers are they are more useful using Kill Zone than Serial. Maybe the Gungslinger variant will see more use with Serial, but mine is the Long Watch variant, and overwatches most of the time instead of attacking,..

I love the reaper ability. Even if you cant manage to get a nade into the enemies you still have a chance of taking dudes out. Late game when you have the plasma sword and bladestorm its even better.

isnt battle.net a more suitable place for this?

Just curious does Bladestorm stack with Reaper? How?

the first hit will hit 100%, after that the dmg will reduce for 1 point every enemy you kill and it have a normal hitchance.
ich train rangers until i had someone who get the last sniperskill, much better than reaper ;)
Mook Feb 29, 2016 @ 1:21pm
It is kind of like face off or serial.

You should use it like face off with a bunch of weak enemies. Like a pod of chrysalids that you hit with a nade.
