Sectopods
I swear, whenever I encounter one, it just sends a subliminal message to every other enemy on the map saying:

"Hey guys, they're here! Let's all swarm them at once!"

Well, it's either they trigger every pod in a 1000 tiles radius or one is just conveniently sitting next to my drop zone.

"That's a nice concealment you got there, it'd be a shame is something were to happen to it..."

Damn, Commander Ironman is silly, annoying, rage-inducing, yet fun as all hell. =D

I dont think they call other pods towards them, but it kinda makes sense for them to even if they dont cos of the fact they walk thru buildings and explosive barrels without giving a ♥♥♥♥♥ so that would probably attract enemy attention in real life anyway...
Outsiders in the long war mod called pods to them in xcom eu so its possible to do, auumably, in xcom 2, but again I dont know if it is a feature or u just got f'ed by rng
but remember
Thats XCOM baby!

According to some lines in the ini files, upon engaging in combat, the enemies will start moving toward you at some point IF they are a mobile pod.

Sectopods are LOUD.

And yeah, yesterday went to assault a facility, my guys landed practically on top of a sectopod.

"Okey, who parked that here?"

I actually had one help me out today.

It was one of those Supply Raids on a train and he was all the way in the back with a Trooper, Stun Lancer, and a Heavy MEC (that had ran away from me earlier). I accidentally got too close to the trigger distance and triggered the pod with my last move. I thought I was completely screwed but then the Sectopod hooked me up big time. He was trying to get off the train's roof and ended up smashing through it, dropping both the Lancer and Trooper, killing the Trooper and knocking the Lancer's health down to 2. I thought he was going to destory all the supplies but he proceeded to walk out into the middle of nowhere and do his multi-laser overwatch thing. The Heavy MEC took off into the shadows and the Lancer booked down the other side of the train completely saving my squad from taking any damage at all.

(I thought I should probably thank him so I gift wrapped a couple of EMP Bombs and tossed them his way. He got a little too excited)

Gotta love when big enemies end up saving you from having to kill the enemies yourself. But then an Andromedon decides to walk into and through a defense objective. :(

Yeah but Andromedons are the best. Like I mind control one until it dies then hack it's corpse and continue the assault. I once used a hacked Andromedon wreck and ran in a circle around a little group of melee enemies, spilling that acid all around them, then punched one in the face. Then I grenaded them all so when they moved they took acid damage and died.

Yeah, they're great for just ruining the enemy's day like that.

I had a similar experiance on the alien foundry mission, I think it was. The damned thing was sitting on a hilltop right over the LZ. Had a couple of troops with bluescreen ammo so it died fast, but no concealment for the rest of the mission.

Sectopods alone... not that big of a deal... But depending what the RNG gives as his little friends... things can get wild.

Sectoids? *yawn*
Codex's? This could be interesting.
MECs? pfft.
Mutons? meh.
Advent troops (3)? ok...
Berserkers? Umm....
Andromedons? You serious?
Archons? umm... ok?
Gatekeeper and and his friend? Say WHAT?

Ofcourse things get easier if you can dominate or mind control or hack some of the "posse".
PhilkIced Feb 23, 2016 @ 2:35am
You know those missions to defend the machine where all the aliens will converge to it. The thing was inside a house, I cleared a couple pods easily on my way there and then I busted into the room...

1 gatekeeper
2 andromedon
2 mutons
1 heavy mec
2 sectoids
1 advent shieldbearer
1 advent trooper
1 advent commander

All triggered at once, all holed up inside that same room, some sick weird stuff was surely happening there before I got in.

Lost 2 guys with quite a high rank, made me mad, but well, that's xcom baby, and it was fun in the end, my emotional rollercoster as I watched pod after pod triggered was stronger than LSD.

mind controlled andromedon on the advent tower mission is probably the reason i made it through with no casualties

Phil, that teaches you to kick down the door before reading the sign that says "Evil Overlord's Conference-Invitation only". :)
centaurianmudpig Feb 23, 2016 @ 2:47am
I havent had that problem. You are very unlucky to run in to one without hearing it first. Make sure you use your 2 action points to slowly remove the FOW. That should help prevent you from activating the Sectopod, while you set up your assault, or avoid while you scout for other pods.

Just make sure you cannot see more than one pod when engaging, that gaurentees they will join the party. If it is a stationary pod, they wont engage, as long they dont catch you, watching them, watching you, watching them.
