At what point should I try to kill the Codex?

So I tried skulljacking, worked, Mr Codex comes in and overwatches then shoots a VIP when the rest of my team extracted since they were too low health. I want to upgrade my soldiers more, but I'm clueless about keeping a balance between doing that and objectives at the same time.

The easiest time? Do it when you have no time limit and preferably, on a reinforcement group. Most the time, you will have an officer in there somewhere. Easy pickings and the codex is all about playing shoot and chase. Unless of course you have the means to one shot it. Then it is shoot and loot =P.

Kill the codex when it warps in after skulljacking the advent officer
I always do that
You just gotta be prepared
Deploy your best squad
Kill all but the officer
Skulljack the officer
Kill the codex

That works for me

Just wait till only an officer is nearby and you have all of your moves. Skulljack. Then shoot codex with high damage shot. Then use 2 grenades to handle low hp origional and clone. Most importantly, do not create multiple codex and let them have a turn. Codex usally uses a turn to disable your weapons, which is great since this does 0 dam and you can still move and grenade.

It helps to have only an officer left (on the entire map), and no VIP (as the Codex will likely flank). I did it on a device defense mission personally.

Flashbang the codex and kill it, pretty simple.

I screwed up and did it during a retaliation mission. I didn't know it'd actually spawn, I just thought all the skulljack did was hack the Officer.

If you flashbang it, it won't create clones, easy to kill then.

Codex TakeDown Move:

Run up to Advent Officer....Summon Codex by brain removal.

Codex Appears,
Dost Thoust even FlashBang?

Lubricate Codex with Bullets....Serve hot.

Its really this simple.

Mag weapons make taking out the Codex easy. But it can be done with ballistics, but you risk more Codex dodge rolls in the process.

Keep in mind that the codex become a common enemy type, so get used to fighting it as either a flash/discharge and kill or snipe/shotgun for large damage and have 2 supports wipe out the weak clone and original.

I will say that supports aoe discharge is billant when you start getting packs of codex.

Particularly because it also Disorients them preventing splitting, as well as damaging them.
