XCOM 2

Does The Tutorial Give Any Gameplay Benefits (Please No Spoilers)
I have not yet started playing the game and was hoping the forums could help me establish if the XCOM 2 TUTORIAL gives any gameplay benefits that would not be received otherwise ?

For example in XCOM EU, playing through the tutorial gave you an etxra satellite, and could potentially give you a SERGEANT and 3 SQUADDIES (if you kept them alive). Both of the tute missions in that game occured before the start of the normal game (ie datewise, it was in Feb not March).

Now I intend to play the XCOM 2 tutorial anyway, but if benefits exist will then restart without it.

So :

1. Any benefits (outside of story/immersion extra), ie ranked people, experience, items, research etc ?
2. How many missions does it last ?
3. Do these occur before the start of XCOM 2 (ie datewise).

Thanks very much for your help. If you could avoid spoilers that pertain to the main game, I would appreciate it.Thanks again.

If you do the tutorial, in addition to the story:

1.) You will receive 1 additional soldier that is is a squaddie (first rank after rookie) Ranger.

2.) All the expansion rooms on the Avenger a filled with stuff. If you skip the tutorial one is already cleared out. This can be good or bad depending on how you view things.

3.) You will be forced to build a MedKit.

4.) The weapon upgrade you get in the tutorial is scripted, otherwise you'll get a random loot drop.

5.) The next few missions are specific in rewards in the tutorial and slightly differ if you don't do it, but it ends up being a wash really.

Date wise, there's no huge difference. I imagine that the mission you perform when you skip the tutorial is going on simultaniously with the tutorial mission. It's just a question of which one you're controlling.

The tutorial only takes maybe 10 minutes to crank through once you know what to expect. I would suggest doing it at least once just for the story. You won't be penalizing yourself or anything for doing it.

1. Nope. If you play the 'non-tutorial' intro mission, everyone will rank up all the same.
2. Just the one IIRC, although the tutorial continues into the base management layer too.
3. Not really - although I guess the non-tutorial mission takes place after, but you could just as easilly imagine it being 'the other half' of the first mission - providing the distraction for the tutorial mission op.
I'd say play the Tutorial Mission only once for the story, it helps set things up.

Any playthrough after that, don't bother with it as the rest of the game seems to flow more naturally without it hand holding you for an hour.

One thing the totorial does, is unavoidavly kill two soldiers, making it impossible to get the no deaths achievement. So yeah, do the tutorial once, then not again.

Thanks for your reply and for the detail. I appreciate it. What ytou mentioedn about the scripting re loot drops and upgrades was exactly what I was looking for. I will just play the tutorial mission and then restart the campaign after I have experienced its story.

Thanks for this. Helps a lot. Want to earn my memorial wall buffer overflow :)

Thanks again everyone. Looks like I will just do the mission and then restart. I am not a fan of advantages or forced choices so I will give it a miss as far as the full playthrough goes.
