XCOM 2
question regarding psi op training.
When you train a skill in the psi lab does it count for that tier?

for example.

The first promotion has 2 abilities to choose from, lets say that in the psi lab I train the right one before the promotion happens. When the promotion itself happens will I not get to choose the other ability?

Next lets say that I choose an ability to train from one of the tiers. Once it is trained will I never get the chance to train the other ability of that tier in the psi lab? I am asking this because I still havent had the option to train mind control.

okay good, would it be worth dropping my ranger for a second psi ops? I am having a hard time deciding on this.

depends on how you play. i prefure 1 of each class backed up by an extra speshalist (for 1 haker and one medic)

You only really need one psi op because of how damn powerfull they are. Once you get upgraded Psi Amps and they get more experience by learning new abilities they can pretty much use mind control or insanity on any advent soldier with 100 accuracy. Hell you could even try to take control of a gatekeeper if you so gamble.

All Psi Ops can theoretically acquire ALL Psi skills. They do not seem to benefit from the AWC extra perk however. You are represented with a choice of 3 skills each time you can train the Psi Op further which are random at first but carry over if you didn't choose them first.
(e.g. taking Stasis instead of Fuse and Fortress will cause Fuse and Fortress to reappear as soon as the Stais training is finished along with another new random skill.)
Your Psi Op will advance in ranks based on how many skills he has trained and thus also making other advanced abilities take less time to learn. e.g. Null Lance takes 10 days initially but if you already have a Magus it will only take 5 iirc.
Thus, taking several lower level skills might be better as you a) cut down on development time and b) have faster increases in Psi Power/ Aim/ Will and Health.

If you have a demolitionist instead of a armor shredder for grenadier, psi ops are also very damaging against armored foes, like MECs and Sectopods. Null Lance will wreck their ♥♥♥♥♥. Also note that they are strong against biological foes aswell since they can mind control them and use Void Rift for ambushes especially.

So I reccomend you keep your ranger since only one psi op is really necessary.

Not to mention Rangers are beautifull in their own way.
