Crashing trying to load a quicksave
*NOTE* I can start up from the Geoscape just fine, but it only occurs when I try to open up a quicksave that was during a fight.

I have tried verifying my cache twice, as I keep getting error 41, but still, I replace the files and it still crashes. Anyone else having this problem/ know a fix?

EDIT: Read an issue about others having problems quick saving. Turns out, there's an issue where if there are burrowed chryssalids in your mission, you can't access any quick saves from that mission. Restarted and finished it, now I can quick save fine.

Yeah, same problem here. Loading and quickloading has always worked for me until yesterday.

I can load any game from the main menu just fine, but as soon as I load a save during a tactical mission, it will briefly show the loading screen, then crash, also giving me error 41. I tried disabling my antivirus, running Steam as admin, and reverifying the game cache, but the problem is still there.

Terribly strange problem.

Same thing started happening to me. I have just taken to quiting and restarting at this point.

The weird thing is, if you're in a mission and you go back to the main menu and load from there, the problem still reoccurs. It's a very strange thing, and I'm thinking it's caused by the game somehow getting corrupted during play and no longer being able to load saved games.

Also updated my drivers and turned off steam cloud, nothing worked.

Wait a second. Guys, have any of you recently installed the "in game clock" mod? Because a few users are reporting this exact issue when using the mod. If you guys recently installed this, then I think we've found the culprit. I'm going to disable the mod now and see if that fixes the problem, will keep you posted.

UPDATE: Yep, it was the in-game clock that did it for me. Sad, because I really wish I could have played with it on. THIS PROBABLY COUNTS FOR ANY INTERFACE CHANGING MOD YOU HAVE JUST INSTALLED that is causing the problem.

If you've recently installed this mod or a similar one, do the following:

- BACK UP YOUR SAVED GAMES

- Install the "Ignore Missing Content" mod. Since the clock is a package that doesn't influence gameplay whatsoever, you should be fine

- Disable the in-game clock mod (or any other similar one), enable the "Ignore Missing Content" mod and launch the game

- Load your saved game, selecing "Load Anyway".

- When the saved game is loaded, pause it and click the button all the way at the bottom (called "unbind mod list" or something) and confirm the selection. This will cause the save game to only incorporate the mods currently in use.

- Hit F5 to quicksave, then F9 to quickload and your problem should be solved.

Hope this works for you guys too!

Nice find there Stromo. It would also be a good idea to let the mod maker know of the issue. They might be able to work around it or resolve it entirely.
Stormo Feb 15, 2016 @ 11:48pm
Yessir, it's already been reported to the mod maker. Did it fix the problem for you?
CalKiernan Feb 16, 2016 @ 5:36am
I have the same issue and not installed any mod ... so seems not to be mod related ...
elpresidenteak Feb 16, 2016 @ 5:52am
I have the same issue and have no mods installed
Stormo Feb 16, 2016 @ 6:05am
You guys are sure it's the exact same issue, right? Being able to load a game from the main menu just fine but being unable to load once in-game? Clearing the mod fixed it for me, but of course, that may not have been the only cause.

i have a similar problem. I can load any geoscape save fine but when i try to load any in combat saves (quicksave and all others) the game crashes but by me with no Error message. The screen just loads a bit then its all black, just the hp bars are visible and then all freezes. After i strg alt del out of game and closing the thread some weird steam download start. This goes to 1% then it tells me steam servers are busy and i cant Download.( whatever it is)

I loadet my Geoscape once and did one mission again and tryed saving and loading and it worked for a while. After the 3-4th time the file was corrupt again so it does not corrupt all saves at all time. Only have this issue since yestersday.

Meh

I have the same problem from yesterday. I can´t load any combat save since the mission started. I have an error 41. My steam started downloading something, than screen appeared with message: steam servers are busy, error 41. I tried to solve this problem through the cache, but it didn´t work. It just told me one file couldn´t be verified, it must be downloaded again.....

Guys, where is the problem? FIRAXIS or STEAM?

I ´ve already downloaded whole XCOM 2 again and problem is still present :-(

It was accessing regardless of in-game or not. It turns out if you have burrowed Chryssalids in your mission, you can't access any saves from that mission. That was the problem I was having.

Ah yes, the "burrowed Chryssalids" thing is a separate problem entirely, and there's no fix for that yet, sadly.
Try rebooting your computer, disabling the anti-virus and then run the game.

My game works perfectly when anti-virus is disabled. Crashes often when it is enabled.
