Crashes when loading a save game? Try this...

I've had absolutely no issues with the game since launch, been playing almost... actually every night. Just today i went to load a Autosave mission save game file, it black screened and crashed to desktop.

If i tried to load any one of the last Autosave game files from that mission, same thing. Tried reinstalling the VC, .Net 4.5, cleared local config folders, verified integrity of game cache, setup shortcut to run game in administrator mode, removed and re-downloaded the DLC's (only had official ones), uninstalling and updating graphics drivers... nothing made a difference.

What worked for me, was first loading a non mission Quicksave, and then loading my mission Quicksave files.

I have also turned off steam cloud synchronisation, as that has caused issues in games like Witcher 3 (it may not make any difference here).

TLDR - I think mission save games are where the issue is (whatever it actually is), and especially the Autosaves. Use Quicksave, for protecting both mission and non mission progress.

Just encountered a very simular issue but the trick dont work for me....
I was on a mission finished it after kicking butt... then game crashes as skyranger lands (does this alot) went to load last auto save - game loads I get the buttons in top right on black screen audio is loaded... then screen goes all black, and CTD with windows looking for what went wrong.

I have tried all 3 auto saves, all do the same - my Start a mission saftey save loads ok
Loading the manual save then one of the auto saves - still same problem!

I saw the game updating in steam - but no patch notes?!?! - Has patch to improve the game killed my auto saves?!?!?! GRRR!!!

I specifically said Quicksaves, not Manual or AutoSaves. The ONLY saves that work for me are Quicksaves (F5 to save, F9 to load).

And if a mission Quicksave wont work, go back to your latest Geoscape/non mission Quicksave, but always use Quicksaves, NOT Manual saves or Autosaves.

Replayed the mission from my religious 1st move save.
using quicksave seems to be a nice "insurance"

Very welcome :)

Playing at launch is always a bit of a gamble, so I'm not that surprised to find a bug or two. Just glad to have stumbled on a way to sidestep this one!
