Why does Scanning Protocol activate enemies out of your visual range?
Shouldn't it just indicate if there are enemies? Cause often times, it seems to activate the enemies as well. Makes it very dangerous for me to use.

It doesn't activate normal enemies. It will unburrow-reveal chryssalids but I'm not sure if it triggers them.

As for Faceless reveals, they will only start moving towards you on their turn, even if they got revealed out of the line of sight.

All other enemies get scanned but shouldn't trigger or come to you.

You must be experiencing a glitch, I bet

Yeah, possibly a bug. For Chyrrlids and Faceless, I figured that was absolutely normal.
I've abused Scanning Protocol a lot, and I believe if there is a clear line of sight from the enemy to your Specialist after scanning, even if it's outside of the Specialist's visual range, they'll get "activated". It's definitely a bug.

Yeah I abused it a lot as well on my first non-ironman playthrough. But I'm afraid as hell to use it again now. Just one bug out could prove to be disastrous. It seemed to bug out like 20-30% of the time.

What about the battle scanner? Does it bug out too?
Joikax Feb 13, 2016 @ 3:00pm
it works the same as scanning protocol so you are subject to the same ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, if you are that unlucky with the game

I don't believe so, but I usually throw my scanners pretty deep into the mist so maybe I just haven't had one land in the 'sweet spot' to activate stuff.

Same goes for the battle scanner. At least one time a group (usual troops, nothing concealed or hidden) was activated by the scan. Reason why i never bought it again. Would never buy it again anyways, even if fixed, there are better utility items to take along.

How can you abuse something that is working as intended oO ;) It's like saying I'm abusing frag / plasma grenades to destroy enemy cover ^_^

no see if enemy is outside regular visual range and then you extend your visual range and it reveals enemies, it shouldnt trigger them as it he says it did.

Exactly this. There should be a difference between my troops visual range and the range of the enemy. If not, neither the battle scanner nor scanning ability make any sense. They should be an option to create ambushes out of the concealed phase, as long as the weapons at hand can hit the enemies from outside their range of view.

But there is. Ever heard of Overwatch Trap, let enemies fall into your line of sight during their turn and that means you get free overwatch shots PLUS a free turn afterwards without them shooting you back during the turn they spotted you and fell for the overwatch?

You can always use a sniper rifle to shoot them outside your squads visual range if you want aswell

Same goes for nades if you got the range to do it without getting too close.

You can abuse Line of Sight blockers to create non-concealment ambushes on unsuspecting pods aswell.

Like... there's no shortage of options once you go out of concealment

Please I hope its fixed. This "bug" can put an end to an Ironman campaign at Classic+!
