ADVENT has cooler designs, they have actual synergy with each other, they have robotic units.

Aliens just feel like a kid poured their bag of toys out on the battlefield whenever you encounter them.

So if there ever will be a Xcom 2 Expansion of faction, Advant is the first one.
All those hybrid aliens have no where left to go. they are not Alien enough.

And they definetly are not human anymore, and people would kill and despise them for what they have done :P

But it seems it will attract many followers :P cause they look Cool.

see they got you hooked already... they are SUPPOSE to look cool . They dress like that for propaganda and you are falling for it! Those helmets are to cover up thier eyes not to freak out the populace. To the populace they look like normal humans with just thier mouth showing!. Dont fall for it! They made those floaters from the last game to look like angelic beings. It is a trick! Please come back from the dark side my friend!

I think that's the point.

Advent is an well organized military force made out of Earth's way of doing things.

Typical aliens like Sectoids are more about individual strength on battlefield than cooperation. In fact that applies to most of those aliens that are not Advent.

But yeah, when you can just throw stuff at the planet to conquer it, it doesn't exactly refine your military tactics. Earth probably has been quite insightful to them.

Would explain why things like "Alien Grenade" got developed in the first game.

The overall theme of EU, EW and XCOM2 is that the aliens are absorbing various species from around the galaxy based on their individual strengths. Their weakness (and ultimate downfall) is they failed to mold those species into a unified fighting force. This is why they were so intruiged by humans, and humanity's natural affinity for synergization.

Hence Advent. The aliens allowed their new human allies to design and field Earth's new military. They are NOT aliens, they are genetically enhanced/modified humans. Mutants, basically. That's why they have such good synergy; they were borne of human ingenuity.

My alien that gave me the biggest What the heck was the andromedon (more cause what the LAG .. when it went into second form! aside from the suprise the LAG and animation issue was horrible)

After that one nothing more really >.< I still have not experienced the Centurion abilities of fright from longwar mod studios (cause it is dead mostly in 1 turn or 2nd turn. after it takes one shot)
