Do you really need to fear the avatar project?
I'm always kinda flirting with it filling up, about 2 squares away. though i'm in the middle of a facility raid now, which should set it back by about 2 more squares and delay it. though after this one i'm kinda..stuck. i know where the next facility is, but i can't get there without making contact with a new region, but i need like 70 more intel. hopefully i luck into some before the clock starts up again

question though, if you delay the project by say, two weeks, and then attack another facility which delays it 2 weeks. does that stack or run concurrent?

The effects your seeing of Gorrilla attacks do stack, but the number of alien facilities, your difficulty level and how the AI is pressuring you/Focusing on the Avatar project will change.

The Avatar project isn't much to worry about as it progresses, The only worry you need to have is to make sure it doesn't fill up completely. Long as you can make it and destory any existing facilities...

If there are no facilities (Including none that are hidden from your view) the Avatar project slows down a lot. Dark Events you choose to ignore are only other way that they can progress it.

Tip:

You can actually let the avatar project fill up. It only starts a 20 days countdown when it is activated. From there you can do a blacksite mission and it will revert back to the bar.

pretty much this as long as you have plenty of other facilities to raid u can stall the timer for a long time.

Agreed. Once it's filled up you get the 20 day countdown timer. I saved my game and let the timer run out just to see what happens. As it turns out, it's truly end game if the clock expires.

Once it fills up and you've done all the blacksite missions on your unlocked regions , you're ♥♥♥♥♥♥ if you don't open up a new region with a blacksite in time.

Well I made the mistake of not fearing the avatar projectt!

Think it was because I saw someting about how you dont need to fear it. Triggered a massive count down however and the world subsequently exploded. So yes in future I will fear the Avatar project!

I think there is a big difference between understanding when something becomes a threat and completely ignoring it.

I was a bit worried at the beginning when it very quickly filled to around 2/3 full, 10 dead, and all but 5 out with injuries. As soon as you have a few regions unlocked and can blow up more factories it plummets though, some missions will drop it 3 by themselves. I'm almost at the end game and its sitting back at zero. Same thing with the soldiers, as soon as a few research projects were done people stopped dying (for the most part) and injury times shrank to sitting out one mission or none at all.

You don't need panic, game does not end when counter fills up, You get a second timer of 20 days. This means as long as you keep one facility or missions that drop rating you can hit you can use those 20 days without worry of more counters. Finally don't trust two week facility delay as most times it doesn't work for me anyway (basicly if less than two weeks until next facility it glitches at least for me.)

Not sure if just imagining but it seems if you run high doomsday clock the mission with guaranteed hack at end will consistently give some awesome bonuses like halve scanning times for a month that make the stress worth it.

LOL! No, it's a game.

You can milk it for time indefinitely.
Wait until it fills up, you get 20 more days, wait until you have 2 days left, attack blacksite, that resets the counter, rinse and repeat.

From what I have seen, it is impossible to prevent it from filling up and you could even screw yourself over trying it by attacking all blacksites in your region and then have none left which you can reach in time.

there's no need to fear it, but you can't completely ignore it...

every game i let the project fill up and only do missions to make it go down after the 20 days count timer starts

you can stay on the edge of it like this for several (in game) years before you finally run out of ways to knock off pips. long past where you can recover from early mistakes and easily have a strong enough force to win with

my only advice would be always know what your next method for reducing the project is, if you know you have something handy (either a storyline point or a factory) then there's nothing to fear from it, go do whatever you want and than trigger your avatar reductions as needed

You let it fill up completely and then do a facility raid or story mission.

on Vetran you get 21 days, thats 3 weeks, I made it to august of 2036 before I beat the game, just messing around waiting.

on Commander you have 7 days, so make sure you got a story mission or facility raid ready to go (first one is 14 or so days)

but still wait for it to fill up before moving ahead. it adds alot more time to ride out the doom ticker.

also regarding intel, use the skulljack. research skullmining, get a 70% to kill an advent and do a hack roll for 20 intel every mission. Skulljack and gremlin mk 2 is +45 hack score. works out to maybe 10 intel a mission. which means you can get enough to do your contacts pretty easily and still have plenty to buy out the black market.
