Question about "Who Needs Tygan?" Achievement
Greetings folks,
so the "Who Needs Tygan?"-Achievement says: Beat the final mission using only conventional gear. Alright, but what does this mean exactly? Do i have to stick to the starting tier 1 weapons and armor? And what about special ammunition and bombs?
And also: when does the last mission starts? Is it the attack on the ADVENT communication tower? I'm playing on Ironman mode and don't want to screw this up. Need advice here. Thanks forward.

The final mission is the raid on the alien underwater base.. after you destroy the tower.. but the tower is part 1 of the mission... after you begin part 1 you have to progress to part 2... to earn the achievement you cannot use any upgraded equipment AT ALL.... NONE.. aka the achievement is "who needs tygan?" no researched items at all allowed.

Only the equipment you started the game with is allowed... this also means no psi soldiers either.

Only the weapons and gear when you first started your game, no weapon mods, no plasma grenade, no utility items like special ammo/grenade, and no psi ops.

I'm not sure if PCS counts, I don't thnk so since it's part of the Guerilla Tactical School which is not part of Tygan research. But I brought only players with no PCS to be sure.

assault rifle/shotgun/gremlim mk I/frag grenade/grenade launcher/minigun/kevlar armor.

final battle after the advent tower.

Jesus Christ. I don't like where this is going. Anyway, thanks for the advice. ^^

Definitely don't do it on Ironman.

I'm playing on hardest difficulty + Ironman. There's no way back. ^^

Finish the game, sure, but there's no way you're getting that achievement on that high of a difficulty.
Plus if Plasma Grenade disqualifies you, it's probably already literally impossible for you to get it.

You're maybe right. I just realized, there's no switch back to normal grenades. But what about those simple +1 HP Nano Vests? Isn't that counting as conventional gear? If so, then i can replace the Plasma grenades with those Vests.

Edit: Why the hell are they making such dum**ss Achievements..

So ppl can have challange and spent more time on figuring way to get it, legit ot not.
I always woundered why they make dumb achivements for like starting a game or doing 1st mission. But i guess ppl like getting rewarded.

I call that mind slavery and diabolic torture. You know what? Fu** this achievement. Life is too short for that Nonsense. ^^

And excellent question - it seems that playing a fun game is no longer sufficient motivation for players without some imaginary number going up for arbitrary actions.

Nanoscale Vest comes from researching Alien Materials, so if they're being strict about utilities, probably not.
If utilities are "no research at all" then the only ones that would fit into that category would be Frag Grenade, Flashbang, Smoke Grenade, and Medkit (but Frag Grenade, Smoke Grenade, and Medkit get upgraded in the Proving Grounds)
Or it might be "no built items" which means Frags. Which means if you get Plasma Grenades it's then impossible, which is dumb.

This one does sound pretty difficult, even on the easiest difficulty...

I finished the Game without that achievement (thank god). Hardest difficulty + Ironman. Even if i would be able to try this achievement, there's absolutely no chance in winning the last Mission on that Difficulty without upgraded weapons, gear and Psi-Soldiers. It was so damn hard. Constantly reinforcements, 3 Avatars, which heal themselves every round, teleporting themselves after each attack and mind-control your Soldiers. At some Point i had to deal with over 25 Enemys at once. No way to beat this with crapy tier 1 weapons and without Psi Soldiers.
