How to counter Dark Events?
I am not sure I am getting this right. Do I have to pick something, or just take on the missions that allow to me to counter the DEs? bradford says something like "choose carefully, because we can't counter them all" and so I was expecting some choice like vanilla EW's mission selection

Missions will pop up eventually which can counter impending Dark Events. If you suceed at the event, you block it.

This also means that you'll be unable to finish the other two, so afterwards, the AI will pick a bonus from the remaining options and roll with it.

When dark events pop up (red cards), it's a warning of whats to come. When the "mission" pops up, you can choose which one to do. Oddly, the first time I got it I had 2 choices, but I could only do one of them. Every other time I got to choose. Maybe that first time the 2nd choice was outside of my range or something.

at rare occasions you get a another chance at stopping a second darkevent. however that is a rare event. so block the ones that are the biggest threat to you

Didn't realize it only picked one. I thought it fired all of them that you didn't block. If you are right, I just learned something!

These only happen once a month.

I think the first month is only 2 choices of missions.

How you decide what mission is up to you as these not only are a counter for a specific malus but also importantly each has a differrent mission parameter like say sabotage, rescue, or recover artifact/data run. Be sure to really consider the differrent rewards both Engineers and/or Intel are highly desirable at least in my eyes.

I noticed that to. At the beginning of the game I usually only get two events then I'll clear a guerilla op of my choice. Eventually the game will give me a third choice which I will usually reveal with Intel... And it's usually good to reveal it cause I almost passed up a UFO Hunt by trying to be cheap. A voice in my head told me not to do it and so I revealed it, I almost fainted when I realized what I almost did.

It was Vert's voice from the Neptunia series. Telling me to go ahead and spend the Intel cause I really needed to know. I hear alot more voices to. :vert:

Oddly, in my game even if you don't reveal the third option, you can still choose the mission. You do eventually find out what you stopped :-).

Is there a way to be able to choose? I restarted my game becasue I'd make a mess of the geoscape layer with all my goofing off and bad habits from LW.

Anyways, in this campaign, the second month had Dark Events for ADVENT plating (whatever) and UFO Hunt. I never got the choice to stop the Hunt, only the plating. Which kinda sucks, because the plating is practically a non-issue this early.

There's two ways:

1. A mission will pop up that says "Blocks Dark Event" in small text.

2. You get in contact with a country with an active Dark Event - the mission will be red.

Guerilla Ops mission will pop up, then you decide which mission (red block of text displayed below reward describing the dark event) to do to counter it.

It's those green colored mission. You can only do 1, thus only counter 1 per cycle.

So you have to have contact with a region in order to see it's Dark Event missions pop up? That's.... total ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Month 2 Avenger defense might kill this campaign.
