XCOM 2
Squadsight Penalty
Can somebody explain to me how the squadsight penalty works? I went for a great shot with my sniper to realize the hit chance was 37%. I said "How?" This was from an elevated position, into low cover... I'm thinking 80% easy... 37% hit chance... I looked at the breakdown and I see a -54% squadsight penalty... Literally renders my sniper useless... And if possible, any source for any information as well, thank you.

Partial jokery.

This isn't a necro; a necro would be if I revived a thread from years ago with no relevance.

As there's been no balance patches related to squadsight since the game's launch, this thread and everyone's posts are entirely relevant at present. (Aside from our offtopic ones anyway..)

Snipers are fine

They suck.

They had to nerf Squadsight in EW.

Then they had to nerf it again in X2.

And suprisingly there are still adepts of the Church of Latter Day Sharpshooters.

Compare EW Sniper skill tree with X2 Sharpshooter skill tree. It's a joke.

Can't live without snipers, if they were any more useful the gae would be easyer then it already is.

with a superior Perception PCS and a scope I don't have trouble picking off targets at most ranges who are flanked. because they are robots or I blew their cover.

I play my sharpshooters as semi hybrid pistol and rifle.

Hit % in this game is broken. I swear im playing a game of loony toons? How you ask, well just have an Advent soldier stand behind a freakin light pole and hit % is dropped to 55% regardless of where i am standing unless i am absolutely behind him. Yet I can be in full cover behind a wall or in a building on the second floor with 0.00 visibility and get shot and killed by an advent soldier who is either standing across the map or on a lower floor with no vision on me. The game has the absolutely worst hit % logic ever. Then the concealment function is a joke since it only lasts till you shoot your weapon even if you kill the first group of baddies everyone on the map knows where you are and then there is the scamper phase of free movement these guys get.

Right, because when you start shooting your guns there's no way people (who are psionically linked, no less) within 3 city blocks of you would know about it.

I give my sniper most of the pistol perks and bluescreen ammo. Guy annihilates stuff. He can kill a sectopd by himself in one turn.:xcom2specialist:

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=728498740 (knowing XCOM I could've probably hit it; seeing as I've missed shots at 100%)

Discovered the cause of half of those though; the SPARK gives full cover to ENEMIES, including ones it's attacking. Ingame description only says it gives cover to squadmates. This is clearly yet another bug.

Sadly I don't have a screenshot to demonstrate this, but it's happened to me more times than I can count. Latest mission had an enemy throw a grenade at the roof, while inside the building, and blow up and kill 2 of my soldiers as they fell to ground level. That's more egregious than shooting through 3 solid walls and OHKOing my full cover soldier.

Snipers become god killers when they hit their highest rank and you have the gear to augment that, you just have to give them some backup options in the early game, such as lighting hands so they can help with a revolver shot, giving them a grenade, keeping them slightly behind your team instead of at the other side of the map, etc.

Generally my first sniper has a mix of gunslinger and sharpshooter traits, gunslinger to help out in the early game when their long range shooting sucks, eventually focusing entirely on sharpshooting.

By the time you can get a spider suit, some rifles with aim mods and maybe some ammo to help with the aim, pop all them on a squaddie sniper (taking a free move to grapple to high cover and snipe is an amazing ability to have) and go all sharpshooter.

OR

Focus mainly on gunslinging in the early game, then when they reach a rank where they can get skills that boost long range sniping, simply respec their skills in the AWC
