Should I do Rookie or Veteran?
Messed around with the first XCOM but got about nowhere. Is Veteran difficult? I'd pick Rookie but I assume no challenge then. Advice?

You can change difficulty mid-game as well so if you start on Rookie you can move up the difficulty to Vetran if you find it too tough or vice versa.

From my experience the game is harder in the begining but becomes easier mid - late game when your troops are higher level, have better gear and you the player are more experienced with dealing with the various alien threats.

can i ask which difficulty u aer on?

I play on Vetran

ok thanks - i'd wanna do rookie but i'm afraid it'll be too easy - also won't i lose the achieve for Veteran if I start off with Rookie?

You'll get the achievements and post complete perks when you complete Rookie, for rookie. Then play Veteran.

You get the same achievement for Rookie or Vetran.

Save scumming is were people keep reloading over and over to get the perfect outcome. I would say, if you even have to ask wether to go rookie or veteran, go for rookie. Veteran seems like it would be frustrating if you don't have a good idea of how the game works.

i would but i'm afraid rookie is so hand-held it offers no challenge (even after I pick it up!)

If you are new to the game and haven't played much XCOM EU, Rookie is the way to go.

There are no special achievements for Veteran (other than completion). Special achievements only show up Commander+.

That is something you can do. I have looked at the achievements and you get the same one if you complete on Rookie or Vetran I believe.

You might want to start on rookie, get a feel for the game, then up the difficulty but your choice. You are free to choice during the game what difficulty you would like.

I am actually not sure what the major difference is between Rookie and Vetran, I don't think it is a massive difference. I think you start seeing real difference from Commander upwards - anybody can confirm this?

The game is challenging, especially in the begining when you are learning the game and your soldiers are cr*p. There is no shame in playing on Rookie, remember the most important thing is that you enjoy yourself, not what anybody else thinks.

Try what you feel comfortable on and change as needed :)

You can also change the difficulty in-game during a campaign. You don't need to restart.

I´m still on my first campaign on VETERAN level, I have run over 30 missions and I only lost, counting with the one characters you HAVE to lose on the tutorial, a total of 7 soldiers. 2 of them when I did a mission on later stages with rokkies for the achievement.

The game is very enjoyable, challenging nd maybe even easy at VETERAN level. Rookie is probably incredible easy.
