Can't decide on Ranger abiltiy.
Hey all

I just made Major with my Ranger and can now choose Deep Cover (If you did not attack this turn, hunker down automatically) or Untouchable (If you score a killing hit then the next enemy attack next turn misses)

This Ranger is a Scout and Deep Cover is a Scout ability but it seems rather week comparted to Untouchable.

Anyone got any ideas?

I always go with Untouchable.

Untouchable is amazing! If you're going to fight a pod and can't kill everyone in it, kill one, damage the second, and leave the third. Use your ranger to run and gun the damaged one for an assured kill and the third undamaged enemy will almost always attack him, and since he is invincible to their first attack, will take no damage, even from a grenade.

If you're using this Ranger as a Scout there's no reason NOT to take Untouchable. When I look at abilities I look at what specific set of circumstances need to be met in order to use them. In the case of Untouchable you just need to kill an enemy for it to trigger. Not a wholly unheard of circumstance for a combat game, especially for a Ranger in Xcom 2. The Deep Cover ability sounds interesting but only triggers if you don't attack that turn. If you didn't attack in a turn your character is probably already in a position where he won't get attacked any way so what's the point? And if you did end up getting jumped while sneaking you're Ranger is already most likely going to be in a position where he's in the open anyway. So unless Hunker Down can be done in the open with no cover it's not really going to be useful. This is just my take on it though.

*edit*
Also look at it like this: Untouchable is a guaranty that you won't get hit. Deep Cover gives you Hunker Down. There's still a chance you'll get hit; especially by a melee attack. Always go for the "sure thing".

I regret not taking Untouchable on my lead ranger...

untouchable is also very useful for when you decide to go on slicing and dicing everything.

Hey

Thanks all for the replies. Yeah. I like to play my scout as a guy who goes for the kill when its really needed. So I tend to stay in concealment a lot as I like to use him on tough enemies like Berserkers or Archons and the like as the increase in aim and crit is really nice. As I tend to use him for the killing blow.

I think Untouchable it will be.

Thanks again!
