XCOM 2
How the hell do you stop the ufo?
I have all my upgrades as far as my ship defenses and now no matter where I go the ufo catches me and puts in in a basically unwinnable mission.

The mission is I have to destroy the disruptor (all the way across the map) + stop enemies from entering the "landing zone".

There are at least 12 guys on the 1st wave (berserkers, codexs, you name it) then they summon in 2 more waves + I got close to the disruptor and there are at least 5-6 more enemies.

I can't even heal my guys at base because anything I do triggers the ufo mission.

I did all the side missions but nothing seems to have stopped it.

Anything I can do?

Edit: I have tried the mission again. I destroyed the beacon but I had a minimum of 15 enemies on screen. I used smoke grenades, flashbangs, mimics, you name it. I lost every soldier I had on the last turn behind full cover and from disoriented enemies still hitting doing 8-12 damage each. One of my soldiers died and right as I was going to lift off 2 more, high level soldiers, panicked and ran straight into the enemies. That's when they just slaughtered me. If I don't reload I am literally at zero soldiers.

Also I upgraded the ship for the ufo incounters and have read something about turrets but I have no turrets to help.

Its a scripted mission. All you can do is tough it out.

Ideally you have a ranger with infiltration perks to stay hidden, then deal with the initial waves until it slows down a bit, run that infiltrated ranger to the beacon and squadsight snipe the beacon, then run back (if possible) and evac.

Oh goody lol.

You stop the UFO by winning the mission, or avoiding it forever I guess?

I stopped it very early on in the campaign, which is probably why the mission was very easy for me, since I only had to face low level Advent soldiers and the weakest MEC. Not even a single Viper or Shieldbearer!

Eventually I had the place locked down with a mix of 10+ low rank Squaddies & Rookies ganging up on new reinforcements every turn before they can build up.

Can't avoid it no matter what.

Plus infiltrate doesn't work because I start exposed :/

That makes me wonder how difficult it'll be when I run into it, right now it hasn't appeared for me (although the last update I had told me that it was 'preparing' for its mission, which makes me ponder when I'll run into it) :<

With the right perks, ranger starts off infiltrated no matter what. This becomes loads important late game but having it at this stage is extremely helpful

"Basically unwinnable mission."

Wut. The UFO mission is pretty straightforward. You're gonna get caught, but if you play the mission properly you should be fine. You've got a ton of people, and you have to defend a fairly small space. Hold the landing pad, then send a strike team out to take down the tower.

Great mission to promote your troops on.
I just had 1 specialist, 1 heavy troop and a Ranger right flank em all. Hold the rest back at the qad turrets and make alien mince meat! then after the 4th or 5th wave move them up for cover on the objective to destroy. Then run like hell back to the ship.

Fun mission all in all IMHO.
Cheers.

So how do I get past all the guys stunning me, doing 7-8 damage per hit, and damage the beacon all at the same time.

It's not about being caught it's a gaulntlet that's neverending.

I tried sending guys out but they cannot make it.

Just because it's easy to understand the objective doesn't mean you can complete it.

I have no idea what to do at this point honestly.

I'll try it and hope it works.

Thanks.

Oh, it'll suck.

I just got it. First round went like normal - two aliens (Snake and Advent trooper) and took them down no problem.

Second round was two guys move up, spotted me, took cover. Then three more moved up, spotted me and took cover. OK, a little concerned but its 5 to 7 right now (you get reinforcements from the ship every few turns) and I hacked their MEC. Next turn a stun trooper runs through my OW guantlet, triggering everyone and everyone except *one* guy misses. But he kills the Stun Trooper. Then the *second Snake runs through and grabs someone. Then *another* stun trooper runs through and stuns someone. *Then* three more aliens show up, including a Muton.

Now its 6 to 7, any one of my guys can be killed by a single lucky shot while it will take at least 2-3 shots to bring down most of those 7 (Muton, Snake, Stun Trooper). And any minute now I'm going to lose control of the MEC.

Suicide the mec with micro missiles right in the middle of whatever does the most damage.

Squadsight+ranger with "conceal" skill (unlocked at Lieutenant rank) = flawless victory. Just get him, your best sharpshooter, 2 grenadiers, psy operative and specialist. Enter concealment and run forward. After you get squadsight vision on disruptor - snipe it. Cover your ranger and get back in one piece. Good luck, Commander.

Yeah you get 6 promotions, get flashbang grenades, multiples. Don't feel bad to save scum till you get the touch of the game. You will hit a point, you will no longer need it.
