Fixed my constant random game crashes.
I had problems with constant random crashes. Sometimes the game crashes 2 hours in, sometime 15 minutes. It reached the point where I panicked since the game is so fun but the crashing is driving me nuts.

I tried evrey solution on the book, gpu wise and driver wise, but what did it for me was this.

Steps

1. Re-validate file intrigity
2. Disable Steam Overlay in-game
3. Disable V-Sync in-game
4. Run game in borderless mode

Boom, no more crashes for me.
Hope this might help some of you.

Restarting steam after the above steps might also improve the efficientcy of the fix. cheers.
Also in-game make sure to disable V-Sync too.

Actually, your steps 3 and 4 fixed my CRASHES ! (they would occur every 15 min. or so).

Probable causes :

- since I installed Windows 10, playing in Fullscreen often provokes crashes in some game. Borderless or Windowed stops the crashes.

- VSync was on in-game but was off in GPU control panel

Of course, the actual cause could be something going wrong while in Fullscreen, like the Avast fullscreen setting going bad.

Revalidating the game cache helped me quite a bit - the other thing that helped, just to throw this in there, was to open up my GeForce Menu and make sure XCom2 was set to Optomized (it wasn't initially). Since then (knock on wood) I haven't had any more crashes.

GeForce optimization did not help in my case. It recommends Fullscreen, which is fine for performance, but something in my Windows 10 set-up does not play nice with games in Fullscreen.
I seem to be having a similar issue; did your computer fully freeze and not change from the xcom 2 frame where it crashed or were you able to use other windows functions after the crash?
The game always crashes when doing Step 3 and 4 and has to reboot the computer before the game can be launched again.
I'm having the same problem. Random crashes. The screen goes totally blank but I can hear the music in the background. I have 2 monitors and both are blank.
Having same problems. I was playing original first xcom2 with no problems for 55 hours. but then I bought and installed those extrapacks (anarchy, hunters etc) and after this in all additional storyline quests my game freezes (it is really happening once in 15-20 minutes when last unit doing something to something).

I had this too until the other day when I noticed I was playing in normal Fullscreen mode, after swapping over to Borderless Windowmode I haven't crashed since. Try that :)

Ye. Was the same problem for me. I did set it to window borderless (doing this to all newly installed games cause of second monitor) But for some reason (I expect cause of new packs I installed) all settings were returned to default. So after switching to borderless I've got no probem playing htis game.

ill try to disable the v-sync and put it in borderless mode.
To anyone who is running multiple monitors: Playing games with all monitors active while you are just using your main one is a bad idea anyway. Many games cannot properly deal with that and you're likely losing performance, even though not much. There is [WIN]+

, use it. I am sitting on three monitors and always cut the signal to two when playing. It's just hitting two buttons, so the inconvenience is minimal. However in terms of stability this is rather huge.

Ok now I have 16 gb as virtual memory + this fix, let see if is going to solve my frequent crashes

After this + the aforementioned workaround I am still getting crashes

Hi guys. Doing the file integrity thing, then deactivating v-sync and putting it into the borderless mode seem to have worked ok for me. Think it would have been enough just with v-sync and borderless, though.

Thanks a lot.
