Sharpshooter (Sniper) Doesn't use sniper rifle... wtf?
Ok...

so i've promated a rookie to a sharpshooter...
gone on a mission to evac a vip...
i have my sniper in my team...
i CLEARLY can see him with an "equiped sniper rifle"...

i've started the mission in the perfect place ""on higher ground""...
i set my sniper up for the kill...

butttttt he only uses "fire pistol" and "pistol overwatch"...
...

what...
the...
♥♥♥♥...
?...

how does that make any sense what so ever?...
ok sure i guessed "maybe my snipers to close to put the sniper rifle to good use"...
i reloaded the mission set up at a longer distance...
and he STILL uses his pistol...

now ok sure im not the smartest tool in the box,,, but as a former sharpshooter
im pretty sure a pistol would be useless when used at longer distances...

if he moved before, he can"t use the sniper, he use the pistol
Shad Feb 6, 2016 @ 5:19pm
You can unly use a sniper rifle if you have not moved this turn.

What everyone said. Move and you loose the chance to shoot with a sniper. Park him at a perfect vantage point and use him as covering fire for everyone.

that makes perfect sense lol...

ok sure it'd take a while to set up a snipers nest
but even then surely you should still beable to use it... just with a lower CtH <facepalms>

<edit>
it might have been a while..
but im sure there was a similar game that allowed you to still fire a sniper rifle.... just at a cut % in CtH rate
(if that sounds familiar, can anyone remember what the game was)

It's fine the way it is.

It was same in XCOM EU EW too

It's just using concealement to get there in first turn and only starting attack on second. Later there are tools to make life easier even.

This is why critical thinking needs to be hammered into people folks.

To be fair, XCOM1 had the option of going Squadsight (range) or Snap Shot (move and shoot). In EW, the Snap Shot sniper was arguably better.

The thing is though as an avid hunter in real life I have run up a mountain, been totally out of breath and STILL I am able to take a shot with my 7MM Remmington Magnum and kill the deer. I didn't need to pull out my pistol, though I didn't have one, but still why this silly game mechanic is in there is beyond my "hunters" level of comprehension because I HAVE done it...

What's even stranger is that they run up the hill holding the rifle, put the rifle in their pack, unholster their pistol, aim the pistol, shoot the pistol, holster the pistol, and finally take the rifle back out of their pack. In what world does doing all of that take less effort and less time than just shooting from the rifle you were already holding?

^ two fools who do not understand what a game is. Oh and think aliens armed with plasma rifles is the equal to a deer.

Prime example why inbreeding is bad and the North should of cheered when the South left.

Hey, deer standing in one place and an enemy on the battlefield are totally equal

One of my snipers didn't need a pistol, she just stuck a second sniper rifle in her belt and used that instead. :steamfacepalm:
