The little bit I manage to do in the game, I love it. I dont find it all that difficult and I'm not on easy either. My hits are great as well but then again, Xcom: Enemy Unkown, I tend to hit the 1% shots 5 times out of 7 sooo.... Im lucky with the shots haha. Now if its a 99% shot... THats another story and Im there with you on not hitting the broad side of a C-130 while standing inside of it.... haha.
Anybody run it on linux yet had these issues ???
(not that'd help me..just interested)
I am running the game on high settings 2500 x 1500 resolution, noticed horrible fps, lip syncing not correct with audio/visual on cutscenes. I turned mxaa x 8 to fxaa, turned off vsync, turned off smoothing, turned down lighting, and it all remains the same. Basically Im 50-60 fps during battle with stuttering during action. I drop to 18-24 fps during cutscenes (and there are ALOT of cutscenes) There is no reason with my system to be having this, so I really really hope a patch comes out soon! Oh I forgot to mention really long loading times for my processor and ram. Come on 2k!!! I really like the game.
Go to Documents>my games>XCOM2>XcomGame>Config
Open "XComEngine.ini"
Find 'PoolSize=10' under "Texture Streaming"
Change the value to 75% of what your GPU VRAM is. For example, I have 2GB of VRAM so the value for me would be: 'PoolSize=1536'
Save, Close and Mark as Read Only. (The game will overwrite your XComEngine.ini file every time you startup the game with a default one.)
Launch the game again and turn your settings back up if you turned them down before. It should run much smoother now.
The only issue is the other options settings are in the XComEngine.ini too, so Marking it as read only means you lose your options the next time you relaunch. To fix this you'll have to:
Make a note of what settings you like. Quit the game. Unmark the .ini from read only, Launch the game, Edit graphics settings, Quit the game, Edit the PoolSize again, then finally Mark as Read Only again.
**UPDATE: It works when combined with the performance tweaks in this link:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Xcom/comments/11cvda/performance_tweaks_for_xcom_ive_tested_on_the_ini/
I am 99% sure that that was a management decision and not the devs choice.
Still the issues need to be fixed. I am running XCom2 on Win7 64, i7, GTX580, 6GB mem and SSD, all watercooled. Starcraft2 on ultra gives me an average system temperature of 38°C, Fallout4 is around 40°C but XCom2 caused 58°C with settings on minimum. WTF?!
After setting the CPU limit to 60% (energy settings), I can play it on high with temp at 42°C.
I can't even play the game do to repeatable freezing/crashing everytime the Squad is about to deploy (either during mission briefing or the moment they head down the ropes). Each time I verify game files and there are 2 that fail and are reacquired. This is also a brand new cleam Windows install. Below is the Win Error Log.
Faulting application name: XCom2.exe, version: 1.0.0.30310, time stamp: 0x56a90eb5

The common thread to all the error logs is the XCom2.eve and the ntdll.dll files.
Also, I have tried runnig the game with every single graphics setting at minumum, with resulution at 1080p.
Your system is over heating, so bad that it does shut down automatically. You should open your case and see what is what inside. Check to see if you water cooler is actually working properly, see if your fans are blocked etc. You may want to try playing in a cooler room or even running a fan pointing to your open case to increase airflow.
You may want to try running it on minimal settings, alt+tab out of xcom2 and then monitor your heat situation for a time and see what is happening (having your case open might give you a visual clue also. Check to see if all the fans are working and that there is good air flow.
My thoughts....
Core i7 with 3,4 GHz
16GB RAM.
Game is pretty good playable but in my eyes there are optimization issues. For me with nearly everything on max (AA only FXAA and ambient occlusion a little bot down) the possible framerate is between 30 and 70 FPS, depends on the situation.
But the range is so huge that there must be something wrong. Also playing in fullscreen window improved my FPS with arround +15 FPS.
That seems a little bit strange to me.
Lower your resolution should help out a great deal more.
I`m play on Kubuntu 15.10 on notebook MSI GE70.
Intel Core i5-4200M
GTX765M 2Gb
8GB RAM
On the first run generated an error. Helped verify game cache. After that the game started.
Play with a resolution of 1366×768 and medium settings. Sometimes video friezes (drop FPS).
But the game is stable, for 11 hours of play no crashes.
Game stutters during cutscenes/base sequences but gameplay is smooth but FPS remains at 30-35 (All this if AA is set to 8x or 4x)
Game becomes fine when I toggle AA to FXAA. FPS goes to around 70-75. But base scenes are still a bit stuttering
Wonder if I'm entilted to a linux version at no extraa charge. (probably wishful thinking lol).
I have mint 17 (cinnamon desktop) on another partition on my i7, gtx860M, 8gb laptop.
Thanks for the info
From those that have tried it, if they had recent enough graphics cards, I've seen reports of the FPS doubling as a result.
It's a bit of a cleaver instead of a scapel approach but the end result is that as long as you have at least 3gb of video memory on your card, this fixed up most of the issues.
(If you don't have enough video memory it causes a crash instead due to trying to load too much into memory at once)
Regarding the [System.Settings] section?
I STRONGLY advise not copying and pasting the ones in the ini settings below.
Instead delete your XComEngine.ini file from My Documents/My Games/XCom 2/... and then launch the game.
Then use the ingame options screen to set up your settings as you want them in THAT panel.
If you're using an NVidia card and a G-Sync monitor, run the game in full screen with v-sync disabled.
If you're using an Nvidia Card without G-Sync or you're running an ATI card, run the game in borderless windowed with V-Sync enabled/disabled depending on your preferance.
But again to be totally clear, this is a cleaver instead of a scapel solution. It works but it's messy and will use A LOT more video memory than XCom 2 usually uses.
If you have less than 3gb of memory I strongly advise against trying these fixes.
You're likely to crash due to running out of video memory.
XC2 usually uses 1.1gb, with these tweaks you'll see usage of 3gb and possibly above. This is due to opting to initialise everything needed for each level into video memory before starting the level.)
With regards to tech issues; so far in 30 hours 3 crashes to desktop, that is all. No save breaking bugs nor load ins. Playing at 1600 by 900, static shadows, vsync off, AA & AO off, medium textures, all decals. My laptop is i7 3630 quad core 2.40, 16 gigs ram, Nvidia 650M. Game runs smooth as silk and looks gorgeous to me.
