SPOILERS: Has Anyone Else Gotten Shot Down by the UFO?

I just got shot down by the UFO and have to destroy the tower to take off again. The game gives you tons of units for the mission but I'm finding it really difficult, very fun but difficult. I was just wondering what other people have done to complete the mission. I have been able to destroy the tower but my guys get surrounded heading to the ramp and die. Has anyone beaten it with a good strategy that results in minimal casualties?

I held back and took out the patrols until reinforcements started dropping in, then sent one grunt off to take out the tower while the rest set up ambushes.
The game got really laggy after a while and apparrently I ended up killing over 70 attackers before I got everyone back on board.

Yeah, my battlefiled was littered with corpses, but sadly I did NOT get all those as a mission reward, all my hard earned lifetime Q.Q

i held the ramp in opening, clearing out the first couple of waves then moved everyone up and overwatched. Couple of guys moved to the beacon and attacked it, anything that spawned or came out of the fog of war was killed by overwatch. First time i met a berzerker and it got mowed down before even reaching anyone.

suppose magnetic weapons and predator armor helped, don't think everyone would have survived without those.

that ufo mission was soooo hard man wtf.. that was kinda unexpected so early in the game

Yeah it happened to me. That mission is much, much harder than everything else so far.

They did warn me to avoid the UFO chasing me, and I didn't listen. Guess I had it coming.

I finished it by having a concealed ranger go to the tower/thing and with some sniper backup, got it down. Then I turtled up with lots of overwatch near the ramp. It worked, but I can imagine you're going to lose at least a few soldiers on the high difficulties.

Yeah, I too had those. I can imagine simply getting overwhelmed if you haven't upgraded your weapons yet.

My first thought was "I'm ♥♥♥♥♥♥", but I actually finnished the mission without any casualties.
Was in a really bad spot after my first move, 3 patrols attacking and my ranger kind of in the open. They kinda wasted their turn by mind controlling and doing other stupid ♥♥♥♥ like running a muton into the middle of my squad and not attacking or anything :p
After clearing those patrols, the mission became very easy since you can just overwatch all reinforcements. Did have upgrade armor and some weapon upgrades wich made it easier.
My 2 rangers and 3 snipers on overwatch massacred most of the map with oneshots.

You can also think of it as a great way to earn promotions :)

Stuck with stock weapons/armor, but I had a good amount of ranked-up soldiers at that point, and placing them on mass Overwatch near the reinforcement beacons worked while my sharpshooters picked off the tower from range (if you have line of sight with the tower, you have 100% chance to hit).

Yeah, kinda disappointed about how easy it was.

First Berserkers I ran into and they didn't get a single soldier.

The 1st Berseker I saw was from that mission, it ended up killing an advent solider after I made it mad...

(2 snipers with squard sight = easy )

This is the hardest type of mission atm ever....but i did warn people in another thread! Avoid being chased by UFOs till you research the Alien's Armor and add it to your troops. Then with lvl2 weaponry you can nuke them all down and its promotions day! Don't let a ufo chase you w/o lvl2 weaponry, you are dead no matter what lol
