When I pressed play both before and after reinstalling, it would open the usual pop-up window that appears whenever you are trying to launch a game that is till downloading/installing. However after a while I get this error message:
an error occurred while updating XCOM 2 (connection timed out)
Thanks for the link, but unfortunately it didn't do anything - plus, the install was stuck before I decided to start over (thinking that the files may habe been corrupted).
Honestly though it's a pretty big file to have to re-download
1. Uninstall the game
2. Close down your Steam.exe
3. Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\depotcache and remove the files there (either delete or move them to another location to be safe)
4. Restart Steam
5. Download the game again, the download should now complete normally, enabling you to commence the installation
6. Wait for a bit until the game is installed. The Steam pop-up window for the game being installed disappeared actually quite fast for me, though the installation took about 5 more min after that in the background before the game launcher started
