XCOM 2

Installation Error
Had pre-loaded but installation failed after timeout errors. Tried deleting and re-downloading but run into the same problems. Other people seem to be having the same problem, is it an error on Steam's side?

I experience the same thing. At first the game tried unpacking for 18 hours (with sufficient hard drive space). Then upon reinstalling it is now stuck at a 98% download (24,7 GB out of 25GB), without anything happening.

When I pressed play both before and after reinstalling, it would open the usual pop-up window that appears whenever you are trying to launch a game that is till downloading/installing. However after a while I get this error message:

an error occurred while updating XCOM 2 (connection timed out)

I receive the same error, and the re-download is also stuck at 24.7 GB.

Thanks for the link, but unfortunately it didn't do anything - plus, the install was stuck before I decided to start over (thinking that the files may habe been corrupted).

Honestly though it's a pretty big file to have to re-download

That doesn't fix it for me. Any other suggestions?

Found a fix that works for me:

1. Uninstall the game
2. Close down your Steam.exe
3. Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\depotcache and remove the files there (either delete or move them to another location to be safe)
4. Restart Steam
5. Download the game again, the download should now complete normally, enabling you to commence the installation
6. Wait for a bit until the game is installed. The Steam pop-up window for the game being installed disappeared actually quite fast for me, though the installation took about 5 more min after that in the background before the game launcher started

Tried your fix, and it worked. Thanks for sharing, and have fun!

No worries

Does that fix actually work?, I'm holding out hope that Support gives me a decent solution here without having to resort to downloading 25.6 gigs of data again when I'm so close, 24.7 gigs, Also, Is anyone else's download just freezing and restarting again without doing anything?

Well it might work without redownloading. I merely relayed what I did here. My advise would be to try to skip step 1 and make sure at step 3 that you move the files to another directory.
