XCOM 2

This game wont unpack...
I pre ordered this game on Tuesday and now it's stuck trying to unpack. I've redownloaded it four times now. Steam downloads the game just fine but when it comes time to unpack it just sits there and then the connection times out. All of my other games update just fine. I've already googled the crap out of this issue and haven't found anything that worked. Has anyone else had this issue?

Unpacking has nothing to do with download, it is your harddrive opening like for example a "zip" file. It takes time, specially if you have a slow harddrive. This isnt an update when it says unpacking . It is installing your game. Redownloading will not fix your issue. You need to be patience and let it do its thing. IT took my computer 45 minutes to unpack and install. Let it run go do something else.

What do you mean? For me there was no progress bar, only the estimated time was ticking down

It won't get to the point where it needs to unpack, it downloads all of the files but the very last second of download the connection drops out, all disk and network activity drops, and it throws a connection time out error.

there is no connection requred for unpacking. Unpacking means installing. You should have a timer of when the installation will be complete. If you are not getting the timer of when it will complete then yes you have a problem. But ignore your internet connection and download that has nothing to do with unpacking.

The game downloads to 99%, and then the connection drops. It becomes locked in limbo, it won't update the last 1% nor will it move on to unpacking it should. I get a connection timeout error message.

Also you are pushing the play button that should be there on the game page are you not. Thats how you install it after a preload.

Yes - the game then says it needs to update and goes through the motions of trying to download with no connection and then into connection timeout error.

Which makes no sense because all of my other games run and update just fine. I even redownloaded another game and it worked perfectly.

Possibly somehting else is messing with your internet connection. Check for malware

Also there is a way to reset all your Steam settings to default including internet settings. It involves deleting some Steam directories. Can not recall which ones however.

Found this on another thread but this worked for me.. I was stuck on 98% download since last night. I deleted contents of \Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\depotcache, download resumed and completed.. game works now for me.

That deletes the actual preload. and then you would have to download the game from scratch. Thats an option.

Running into the same problem since launch. Pre loaded 1 week before. First unpacking it went for a little bit maybe up to 1 min then it stops and is queued again, rinse and repeat. If I click the play button it brings up "updating xcom 2 window" which will again time out saying, System - Error, An error occurred while updating xcom 2 (connection time out). Have attempted to unchecked the DLC, attempted a steam flush and multiple other troubleshooting steps to no avail. I have re downloaded 3 times and currently it is still stuck in the same process

Thanks for your time everyone, I ended up deep cleaning steam from my system and reinstalling fresh, game is downloading now, I hope it works.
