Game Crashes on Mission Start
My game is crashing on mission load, every time. I can start a new game on Commander and play Gate Crasher but then the very next mission crashes to desktop.

I've tried verifying the cache.

I've tried deleting the save games (and that entire folder) after and before verifying the cache.

I've rebooted.

I've deleted local content and reinstalled.

I've updated drivers.

I've tried to unsubscribe some mods and eventually ALL mods...still crashes.

At this point, I'm going to go through the laborious process of deleting the local game content and reinstalling again. At my wi-fi speeds, that's an overnight affair.

Oddly enough, I wasn't having this problem before the patch. I had the crash at startup problem due to a corrupted save file (and disengaged the steam cloud as part of that fix) but that got resolved. I was able to play long enough to complete the game on Commander.

Now that the patch is out...I'm dead in the water. Which sucks, since I want to give Legendary a crack on Ironman.

So...anyone else suffering the same? I've seen a number of posts like mine, but not exactly the same symptom and/or their cure didn't work for me. Appreciate any assistance, as this is a great game, even with the infuriating technical difficulties.

I had a similiar problem, whenever I tried to load my save it crashed.
Don't waste your time, you're probably not going to be able to play the game again, Fraxis frankly just doesn't give a ♥♥♥♥ about us.

Im having the same problem after the patch, "Gate Crasher" plays fine but starting any mission after crashes the game. I was hoping it was just a mod conflicting with the new patch but sadly that wasn't the case

In your documemts folder delete the config folder then verify the game. The documents folder may have a bad edit left in from a mod

Exact same problem. I even deleted my save and started a new game. I REALLY don't wanna start this crap again. I'm at my first Blacksite mission and I just upgraded to magnetic weapons.

You think thats bad? Try losing a strike team of colonels who never missed a shot with plasma rifles while wearing tough as hell power armor

Reminds me of the frustration I felt in XCOM 1 when 2 sectopods used all their mortars to wipe out my A Team on the battlesip.

But let's not get off topic. If this problem gets resolved, we might not have to lose anything else.

The complete reinstall seems to have worked. I did do what mesh2007 suggested and deleted not just the config but the entire directory first, then reinstalled. I'm upa and running through a half dozen missions on Legendary Ironman. I added in what I figured were "safe" mods that I don't want to do without, and still no issues....yet. (said the pessimist).

I'm having the same problem, roughly since the 6-7th of March. It appeared first on legend when I started the next mission in the middle of a playtrough, but now it appears when I start a game, with the first mission after gatecrasher. I need more tests to isolate the conditions (high difficulty and ironman mode seems responsible). Too much mods to pin point one yet.

I had the crash on mission start issue, starting immediately after installing the patch. I'd occasionally get a mission to run, but very, very rarely. I did a verify, which found a fault, but that didn't fix it. However deleting the config folder and then re-running verify, as suggested here, appears to have solved the problem. So thanks to Mesh2007 for that!

It looks like deleting the config folders (one in steamapps, the other in Feralinteractive; both in Library) worked for me too. Thank you a lot.
