No. A lot of them were fired after Midnight Suns didn't pan out. Most notably the lead developer, Jake Solomon. If Firaxis ever makes XCOM 3, it will be by different people.

Thats sad news for me, guess i wont buy any other products of their company then, killing such awesome franchise is a crime

You can blame Firaxis for the layoffs and failure of Midnight suns ... but I'd hold fire on blaming them for killing XCOM.

It would seem there was no desire from JS or the midnight suns team to actually make Xcom 3 in the first place.

Well, the Chimera Squad team is still there.

with the ending of Xcom 2, they had every intention IMO to make a xcom-3. this didnt happen, but i havent given up all hope that it might.. one day

I highly doubt there will be no more x com titles from Firaxis as even Chimera Squad was quite successful for budget spin-off.

Jake Solomon left but other devs stayed (I believe main designedr behind wotc too) it can be both good and bad for the franchize but why judge in advance.. anyway I actually expect X com 3 will be announced along time of Civ 7 release.

I liked the gameplay in Chimera Squad, tbh. It's the story and character design that i had an issue with.

Quite the misinformation.

"Left voluntarily because he wanted to try something new after 23 years" does not equal "he was fired".

It is possible he walked before he was pushed, so everyone could save face.

We simply won't know the answer to that.

But as JS's own tweets state ... he seemingly does not want to work on XCOM games anymore, either in name or spirit, even now he's 'free' to do so. The rest of the MS team ... well there have been layoffs but it's company wide afaik.

XCom was killed by T2, they decided they didn't want large scope versions of xcom, preferring instead games like chimera squad. And that sadly didn't do very well

Uhh no, that's not how it went down. Chimera Squad was a side project by their B-team, headed by Mark Nauta, an XCOM 2 developer who was given his own team for this project. It was intended as a small side project for the studio and testing grounds for some new mechanics. CS was made while the A-team under Jake Solomon was making Midnight Suns.

T2 didn't large hopes for Chimera Squad to begin with, because it has a base price of $20 and it launched with a 50% discount.

More likely they will contract out to third party any future projects.

XCOM Legends is coming up in 2024, it's a free mobile spin-off of the series. The game is developed by the Californian studio Iridium Starfish.

XCOM has we knew it's kaput.
