XCOM 2
I think i may have found a way to stop the lagging and or crashing?
Now I will not guarantee that you wont crash or lag but recently I downloaded Reshade for Star Trek Online. Didn't think it was allowed but it is actually allowed. Roll on a month later and I am having trouble loading up a new campaign for this game, crashing all the time on mission load and based around Covert Infiltration (Brilliant Mod), Prototype Armory, Amalgamation Specs, various Enemy Mods, Resistance Weapons and other cosmetics alongside. My Memory was constantly hitting 100 percent on first load and then crashing ( I watched it in Task Manager). So I thought I would install Reshade only today and the Memory was static at about 50% and Gpu load was at 80%, A completely 180 degeree flip around, way more stable no jerky map movements. I do not know what happened, but if what I have used helps then by all means use it and if everyone already knows this fix then I will shut my face and continue to play. Thanks for your time. Is there something wrong with the way the game was programmed? Is it just not very effecient in the way it does its graphics? I know the game looks very good at the highest specs, like as good as the average third person shooter which is a little bit excessive for a turn based isometric style of game play I say. You could turn down the graphical presets a level.

Hello, I'm on the developer team for the Highlander mod. We take performance issues and memory leaks seriously, and already fixed some of the worst ones with the Highlander.

If ReShade is capable of improving the performance of otherwise outdated XCOM2 engine, we're very interested in that.

I just want to make sure that this is what happened:

ReShade was not installed for XCOM 2. You played the game, had performance and stability issues. Then you installed ReShade for XCOM 2, played again, and issues went away.

Is this what happened?

That feels like what happened Iridar. I just followed the instructions for Reshade installation, found the game in the list and installed it. Downloaded a preset from the Nexus Mods Site "Enhanced Graphics Reshade V2" and loaded the game up on a whim and I was able to get into the first mission for the first time in weeks. it can still be a bit janky with the game in general but i was getting good frames and almost no hiccups. I did turn off AO aswell but FXAA in the graphics menu is still on. I can turn AO back on and see if that makes it better or worse though and I can make a list of the mods I am using aswell.

Let me ask you this question. Have you ever not been able to get consistently into the first mission of either the base game or with Covert Infiltration's Gatecrasher start. That was what was happening to me. I installed this programme not for the graphics side of things, but for the memory usage and CPU usage side of things. In Task Manager I would see the GPU doing nothing, absolutely nothing whilst my Memory stat was spiking to 100% and then crashing the game, even turned off my chassis lights trying to get into the first mission, consistently.

Reply to Iridar has a kind of explanation on how to install it, but it is very much quite self explanatory and the Mod Page on Nexus for the Preset does have an installation guide if you so need it.

Thanks for your reply, disabling the AO may indeed had something to do with it, though. We'll keep tabs on this.

Thanks and your welcome Iridar. If this helps the community at large then its a big win in the long run in my books

Hi iridar, been doing some more testing and the big battles that would be so slow and gut wrenching with lag is holding steady at a good framerate. The only one i came across that slowed down specifically was a map where it was raining. There might have been other factors but i cannot be sure of even that as my force level has been as high as 12 with high level enemies, raider factions, lots of Lost in large groups and still running better than it has ever been. I do not know how to explain it really.

Thanks. We had another person confirm improved performance with ReShade, but I haven't tested it myself yet.

Thats great to hear that someone else has also been able to confirm improved performance.

Can you give me a hint ? When reshader is active can I switch off the ingame options like antialaising SSoa bokeh and so on ? Does reshader not take over so the options inside the game are obsolete ?
Maddog Wolfus Jul 29, 2023 @ 3:54am
From what i can tell Skarsatai, the ingame graphics settings you have continue to work. You can turn off those settings if you wish and all Reshade really does is change the color palette but the profile i am using is from the Nexus site and it is just enhanced graphics Reshade profile. The options ingame are not obsolete, the processing gets changed. I have only just started using it in the last couple of months, Iridar would know more than I would.
i ended up with less shiny color filter, and that's all. because reshade bloom goes crazy, i still use vanilla one, but i didn't experiment that much.
