Alien rulers, how long before they show up?

So I'm in the final stages of my Legendary campaign. I started it fresh so I could activate the dlc alien hunter mission. When it came up I had more pressing matters to deal with and eventually just left it until now. When I went to start the mission (crashed ship?) there wasn't a mission at all, just a popup saying we found some new weapons. I have since done 4 or 5 random missions since then and have yet to meet any of the alien rulers. I have one more story mission to do before the final battle becomes available but I keep doing random missions hoping it will trigger them. My long winded questions are:

Is that normal or did I wait too long so the dlc mission is no longer available?

How many missions did it take you before the alien rulers started appearing?

There is a bunch of people who has mentioned this so there does seem to be some sort of limit yes. I got the actual mission a month after the crashed ship. After that they showed up in the next 9 missions.

Hmmm, ok I haven't received that mission yet. For some reason I thought the crashed ship was the alien nest mission.

After the crashed ship Tygen says something about triangulating the take-off point of the ship. After some time(?) the nest mission becomes aveilable

Okay thanks for the info! It's been at least 2 months of in-game time and still nothing, hopefully it'll show up soon!

It really shouldn't take that long though, i'm afraid you may never see that mission in your current campaign.

I don't rember if there are any necessary research to be done before it shows up. It showed up quite soon, for me: did the scan on the first site, got the unique extra weapons, then sometime later the Nest mission showed up

Without the nest mission the viper shows up on the first supply raid. The other two start to show up a bit after you advance in weapon/armor tier.

No, not for me. It just showed up in the Nest's mission, which I REALLY delayed

I think it must be bugged in my campaign. <sigh>

EDIT: I redownloaded the DLC to see if it will fix it.

Well I decided to start a new campaign again since nothing was happening in my exisitng Legendary (the Alien Rulers never appeared nor did the next mission).

In my new campaign the nest mission showed up after a few weeks of in-game time passed. It didn't seem to take long to kill all three of them since a 10% repeater activated and kill two of them in the mission where they first appeared :/

My last playthrough went the entire game without the Alien Nest mission coming. I don't know if Tygan even said anything about triangulating the ship's take-off point; I just got the gear.

One thing I did was do Shen's Last Gift between the crashed ship appearing and scanning it, wasn't sure if that had something to do with it. I did wait several months in there as I wanted to try to get better equipment before encountering the rulers.

No mods installed, just DLC.
