Bolt Caster info
my question might sound stupid but i purchased yesterday the dlc, i love the new weapons but the bolt caster doesnt really get me, maybe i'm doing something wrong.
it's a weapon that can be used by support, ranger and i guess psyonic (havent unlocked him yet in this new save)
i just dont get why i should take a weapon that leaves me 1 turn of doing nothing after everyshot, i understand that the output dmg is above average and can stun, but i'm always with a guy standing there scratching his head ever turn, adding the fact that seems not good at all for overwatch.
what am i doing wrong? because i got the info that was the best weapon after the axe

It's supposed to be used against certain hostiles added in the dlc.

I love it, it essentially one shots everything early game and with the aim bonus u have a great weapon to start ambushes with. Plus u can get him to a good spot and just reload and shoot every turn.
I put it on a medic specialist because they are healing and buffing a lot, so when she needs to shoot she has a aim bonus, dmg bonus and has enough action points in coming turns to reload anyway

Best is to equip it on a blade ranger. or combine it with the axe on the ranger.
So you can atleast have another option when that 1 shot missed or failed to kill stuff .

Anyway I am not a fan of the bolt caster. cause it persistantly fails ot outperform upgraded attachement weapons.

I do love the looks and animation so I equiped it on my predator blademaster ranger.
But the bolt caster stun is way too low chance to be reliable.
Infact bladestorm stun is about the same chance in test.

Anyway I think people who love to slow pace the game. will have more benefit from the boltcaster.
Then people who like to rush cause then reload and cooldowns doesn´t really matter for people who love to just wait a lot of turns.

Use them on a sniper and if you have a certain mod installed you can upgrade it with a larger clip

I throw it on my psiop since they rarely shoot at all anyway. If it just so happens that I need to shoot instead of using voodoo then that thing will probably annihilate whatever it is I'm aiming at.

I appreciate the Bolt Caster on a Specialist, and I am certainly pleased with the one shot kills on overwatch! I think it must be your soldier who is "not good at all for overwatch," to be perfectly honest. Stick with it, your soldier will learn how to shoot after a little while :)

I'll note that you aren't stuck with "1 turn of doing nothing after everyshot", since you can reload fire again the next turn, you just can't reposition if you need to.

I agree, the weapon is quite effective that way.

Specialists uses chain overwatch attacks, unless you build a buffer who sits in full cover with no line of sight, throwing smoke grenades, aid protocol and once in a while send the gremlin to heal, you consume one action to attack when you could had gained 4+ attacks on overwatch with a rifle.

The Guardian never worked out too well for me (except for that one Ranger), so yeah, I built a buffer who was also Chewie.

Bolt Caster is OP early game where you can't afford upgrading Rifles (I never do - there's not enough suppplies on Legend). And it's +15% aim bonus is very good early game when Aim is low and you do not have Scopes.

Makes Specialist useful for more than hacks on Guerilla missions and cleaning up low-hp enemies.

Reason I stuck it on a ranger :P specialist has beter things to do in 6 turns.
Aid protocol hack and heal and overwatch kills !

I just couldn´t find any use for it on a specialist :P and it definetly slows down the specialist after 1 shot. where it has to waste a turn to reload. instead of moving upward to the hacking point.

you can shoot after reloading, so you should be able to shoot evvery turn if you don't move

Just find a good camping spot and mow them down

there is also a glitch that lets you add 1 modification to the bolt caster by going into the mod screen of another weapon and then clicking next weapon till you get to the bolt caster.
Not sure if its the nation bonus or the upgraded form that unlocked it or if it was there earlier and i didn't notice. and it will probably be patched or if its a bug from loading the DLC into my existing save.. something to check into for me

I used that to add the 3 free reloads to it.. though the 15% accuracy or crit chance seems like a good option as well lol
