This is what I am afraid off. the game is going to hardcore. while it is challenging and fun for me.
Especially for my kind of modded games. where aliens sometimes have 10 armour or tons of health.
I am afraid it is going a bit too hardcore. just to entertain the small crowd.
Even if I am in the small crowd.
Xcom 1 brought back TBS on table. Xcom 2 might be the end of TBS not cause of the difficulty.
But cause it is almost everything advance TBS fans ever wanted!
But sadly not at the cost of the new players learning it.
I do think the viper king should be a bit later. the berserker is fine around mag tech weapons.
Archon King is a bit too early cause of mag tech weapons. but heck it is scary.
All it´s moves are scary as F. AOE , devastate and the high def makes it a solid scary epic boss.
The AI issue I haven´t had a problem with, no silly AI cap or restricted during my boss fights infact the boss simply acted way too smart. even avoiding my Killzone over watch.
Not running into my overwatch ambushes. just wanting to get the ones who were the most threat.
The one with the freezbomb seems to be favorite. then whatever comes into range.
Luckily it very consistant in trying to target high priority over low level rookies.
Or where it can do the most damage with it´s aoe.
Even if he has to escape the ranger bladestorm traps.
But still think maybe a mini boss introduction before the viper king mission might ease stuff on the new players. even if you have to buff the HP of viper king, berserker and archon king more. if you move them down the time scale.
But that is my recommendation, feel free to ignore it and just make Dark Soul xcom lol
I don´t mind :P
Use freeze straight away to set up the following things.
1. Damage over time effects - acid burn, fire, poison (these trigger around 10 times per turn and so are insane damage!)
2. Set-up a flashbang - this stops them using a lot of their abilities, gives them massive mobility nerfs (awesome for the berserker king!) and they miss their basic shots more now too. Use it when the freeze wears off...
3. Killzone - every sharpshooter should have this now, cos it triggers on all of their moves like the damage over time effects in number 1
Remeber these 2 things as well
4. Use free actions - they DO NOT REACT to lightning hands, the free axe throw and units in stealth - use all of these things immediately as otherwise they could escape / uncover stealthed units before u can use them
5. ur soldiers are more valuable then them - remember that u can run away and heal up but they cant, make it a war of attrition
I've beaten this game about 4 times on Legend and just started a new campaign with this DLC. Got to the Viper King surprisingly early in the game, only with a 5 man squad with only ballistics and kevlar.
The 10x actions per turn is DESTROYING me. I can't get anyone into posiiton and the ice bomb doesn't help because after 3 movements/actions it ends anyway. I can ice/flashbang it but by the time my turn ends it's taken shots on most of my guys. Considering how low level you are this early it's basically one hit = one kill.
I have literally no idea how to fight this thing.
If you started a new game. the first mission is scripted
so get everybody in position preferable on highground move bradford over to the VIPER KING with conceal. so he can bladestorm if the King takes a action.
use his reaper to clean up the small vipers of 2 hp first before you get there.
Use the freezebomb to get 3 turns. and just get the high ground and spray it with lead as fast as possible. you have to knock off roughly 1 green bar or survive 2-3 turns so you can also choose to let the viper king come to you.
When bradford hit run and gun and conceal, while the rest is on overwatch. sadly it probaly will be wasted on the smaller vipers (that is what those low damage 1 hp vipers are for)
But truth is I had the similar problem with a new legendary game :P
But yeah the king is very mean if you bundle up together all your troops get frozen.
ive explained how to counter some elements of the bosses in the forum - but they might not be as useful if uve played lots of xcom, its mostly how to control them and use their high move count against them...
Also, the first time u beat legend was 3 days ago, so unless U have finished 3 more campaigns on legend in those 3 days, I'm gonna go right ahead and call ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
He took the brunt of most of the attacks, but the alien was also moving so triggering bladestrom.
Dont waste enemy turns on moving/reloading if you can avoid it.
Freeze bomb is 3 free shots.
Make sure that early on in the fight you shred the armour with something.
The axe throw is free damage.
Once the freeze bomb has worn off use bolt gun or a flash nade.
You dont have to kill it, just do enough to scare it away.
otherwise what u've said seems like a good plan
Bradford doesn't have conceal.
And using Reaper grants the King a move in-between every action, since the Neonate Vipers don't activate until after the King does.
I beat it around 3 months ago. Not sure where you're getting that info.
That was before I even modded my game. I've played 2 modded campaigns since.
I've played 1 veteran, 1 commander, 2 Legendary, 2 Legendary/Ironman and 2 modded runs (neither completed).
If that somehow makes you angry enough to whine on the internet, not my problem.
