Experimental Ammo/Grenade bug
Hi I'm posting here because Im facing a bug that is absolutely RUINING xcom2 for me and there is no info available on the internet except one person facing the same problem as I am but with no answer described here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/XCOM2/comments/4a238s/issues_with_experimental_ammogrenades/

Basically, every time I research ammo or grenade upgrades, or scan an area that rewards ammo and grenades, I complete the research/scan and it gives me NOTHING.

Through the proving grounds it will say experimental ammo/grenade complete on a pop up window that doesnt display any item. And then thats it. Elerium core gone, no grenade/ammo.

When scanning, it gives me a more direct error. It says "Error! Xpad has no BriefSummary". Heres the screenshot: {LINK REMOVED}

Any ideas?

I ctrl F found "xpad" in a file called "game data" in xcom game -> config. Can I delete these ini files??!

When you scan for an area with loot for a reward, the loot appears after the next mission. I don't know why this is.

Did you check your equip list to see if you got it, but it didn't tell you?

I recently started playing again after a couple of months and found my game was misbehaving.
I was experiencing sluggish frame rates, animation bugs and a lot of crashing when loading saved games.
I solved / fixed all these errors by running an game installation verification through steam. As it turns out 104 files were either missing or corrupt despite keeping my game up to date.

It should appear immediately when the scan completes. It does for me. If it's not giving you the reward until after your next mission that is a bug and you should report it.

Have you been using a mod that added ammo or grenades to the game? And did you switch that mod off partway through your campaign?

If so, the game can get stuck trying to award you an item that no longer exists in the game files (because it was added by the mod). Reward Decks Refresher should fix the problem.

YES! Checking that out now HandyVac that sounds like exactly what I need. I love the description of the mod: "causing 'experimental project complete' to pop up without giving you the relevant item when it completes, or gives you an xpad which doesn't exist. This mod fixes exactly that problem by refreshing the deck every time you restart the game."
You so smart! Yes I was using mod but I have tried and tried and tried and TRIED to delete the content I even downloaded the game 2 extra times!!!!

Don't forget, you have to delete the entire folder under "Mygames/Xcom2"
Doing that will remove your Character Pool and saves as well, and most of it isn't really necessary.

Then what's the solution to this xpad gamebreaking mod virus?

There's no virus involved. You have either a broken mod, or stale leftover mod files. Verifying game files, disabling mods, and removing the contents of the config directory under My Games/XCOM2 should be sufficient.

You only have to delete the files within config of that directory, not everything. The issue with mods in X2 is that the launcher doesn't clean itself up after any changes, meaning if you remove something, or the load-order gets changed, etc. most of it stays the same if the config files are not rebuilt in documents.

Also, @op
this is not directly related to the proving grounds/experimental projects, but it is also a similar fix for the same bug:

I'm not sure if my problem is of the same origin but I can't research advanced explosives for whatever reason. Yes I have all prerequisites, the option is simply not there

It worked by the way! The refresher mod fixed the problem thank youuu!

I can confirm the 'Reward Decks Refresher' mods fixes the problem - although it doesn't give you back the rewards you should have had (bye bye elerium cores :steamsad:)

I had the same issue after instaling and removing a couple mods, and then starting a new campaign. Installing the "Reward Decks Refresher" mod fixed it. I had to reload a game saved before research was completed, and after research completion could equip the research result as expected.

Thanks!
