XCOM 2

Are workshop mods completely broken now?
I've installed a bunch of mods from the workshop but they're not appearing in the game.

I've even activated them in the 2K launcher.

Is the functionality completely broken now? Should we just use a custom launcher?

It works. Just keep tick, re-tick the mod, refresh a few times and restart the game a few times.

Nine out of ten times my mods don't work in this game is because my anti-virus is blocking them. There's a chance that every time you've tried to load up the game with mods, it's been trying to tell you it's blocking something it doesn't like.

If so, just tell it to allow any file that has Xcom2 in the name.

Also, if you added them a few at a time, loaded, and added more, go to documents, my games, xcom 2 war of the chosen and delete the config folder. The first launch will rebuild the config without picking up mods, shut down game, launch again, and now mods are there.

The config files are set to compare and modify. Every time another mod is added or one is removed, it introduces errors. And as Amanoob said, that also triggers AV and any anti spyware or malware running programs as it is basically a trojan that generates that file which reports back to 2K what mods you are attempting to use. They really should have turned that off in the last patch as all it is now is a trojan vulnerability.

Keep that in mind if you will load any mods not through Steam as that trojan can easily be hijacked.

Just use the AML. The 2k launcher sucks. It frequently does not actually load your mods or recognize them. AML works great.

Make sure to pay attention to whether you're doing a vanilla game or a WOTC game though. Some mods only work with vanilla. Some only work with WOTC. Some work with both. Most of the mods are pretty good about telling you whether it's compatible with 1 or the other, or both. A lot of mods have a separate version for each.

Does AML still unlock achievements/record time in game?

Not a deal breaker but can't find any info about it.

It's still launching from Steam, you'll get achievements and your game time will be accounted for.

So if we can *replace* the launcher, can we just absolutely destroy it instead and run it the way we used to?

Because SCREW 2k and their bullcrap launcher.

Cheevos are working, but I can't figure out a way to start the game directly without going through AML first, which means my Steam input bindings aren't working in the game :/

Is that a Steam Deck thing? I'm not sure what you mean by "Steam input bindings".

It's a Steam Deck/Steam Controller thing.

I went to their Discord and found out a couple of things:
- You only need to launch AML once to set up the mods
- You can then start Xcom from the game's exe (not the launcher) and it will have the mods

So I went into XCOM2's page in my library, I opened up its settings and set its launch options as:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\XCOM 2\XCom2-WarOfTheChosen\Binaries\Win64\XCom2.exe" -review -noRedscreens -allowconsole -nostartupmovies "%command%"

I tried it out and it bypasses the 2K launcher and keeps all the mods from AML active. Also keeps all the official controller bindings 👍

Did not originally mention Steam Deck...

THIS if your answer for Steam Deck.
