XCOM 2
Acatar progress not dropping.
I have been having a problem after playing a new campaign after shens last gift came out. I can't seem to drop the avatar progress, even after destroying facilities or killing codexes, which spawn very frequently suddenly.

I have contacts in every region of the globe and full radio towers on every continent (full coverage all bonuses). I've cleared every factory off the globe.

Sitting with a full avatar bar and 20 days until the aliens "win". Wonder how the heck I'm supposed to get rid of avatar points with no more factories available to blow up.

beat the game.

@Kunovega:

That's exactly the scenario I absolutely dislike about the Avatar Project in comparison to XCOM EU/EW's Doom Tracker. EU/EW's system gave you control over how he alien threat impacted your campaign and making sure the threat level was low allowed you to artificially prolong the campaign.

Here on X2 however, not only did the Devs designed the system to never stop increasing, they also want you to speedrun the game. Not my idea of fun TBH :(

Well Kunovega has an interestin situation and Cahos brings up a good point about the game mechanic of XCOM 2, which i happen to agree on, but doest help save me from being ♥♥♥♥♥♥ by an unstoppable avatar progress bar. I can't lower it and i only got about 2 pips to go.

You're mistaken. in EU you were forced to let panic levels rise no matter what - Terror Missions and Abduction missions were always "Lower panic in ONE place, let panic rise in 2 places". There was nothing you could do to 100% eliminate panic increases.

Only in Longwar were you able to outright mitigate panic increases by blowing the ♥♥♥♥ out of every UFO that came into your radar coverage.

Abductions didn't occur in territories you had satellite coverage over, so once you had full coverage they stopped completely, and terror missions actually decreased panic if you saved enough civs (across the whole continent if you saved a lot of them)
Whereas in LW terror missions didn't decrease panic (which makes sense) regardless of how good you do, but panic increases for every civ that dies.

100% wrong

Vanilla game no mods: You can in fact get satelite coverage over 100% of all countries and prevent all abduction missions.

I have finished games with 0 world wide panic, and absolutely no loss of any country. A perfect game could be achieved in vanilla (no mods) and you could take as many (in game) years as you wanted to achieve this.

If you had trouble managing panic world wide you were problably rushing the game and not getting sat coverage fast enough.

In fact you can go one step further in your manipulations by covering all but 2 countries of the world with satelites. If the two open countries are both on the same continent you will forever have 2 abduction missions (monthly) to pick from.

This strat allows you to farm an abduction mission every month and your successful one counteracts the panic from the other (since they will be same continent).

In this way you have two choices moving forwards: Keep those two open for farming or get world sat coverage and never do another abduction mission.

I have never finished a game of Xcom EU/EW and lost a country nor have I ever had to rush and finish the game due to panic because I can control the panic levels at all times. I sometimes spend a couple of years (in game) simply maxing out troops and enjoying crushing the aliens before bothering to finish them off.

This is in complete contrast to Xcom2 which eventually forces you to win because apparantly you run out of ways to stop the avatar project.

I probably can win right now. I have a full squad of end game geared colonels that can complete missions flawlessly (thats without taking a single hit of damage) on a regular basis. But you know what? I don't want to win right now. I wanted to keep building up other soldiers and working on achievements. (I just did the beginners luck by beating a mission in june or later using only rookies ~ they took down sectopods and gatekeepers and not one of them died).

I know others have complained about the in-mission timers, but I never minded those. They were simple to get around with good tactics (and a good specialist hacker from range...). What I don't like is having the strategy layer force me to end the game when I don't want to.

You only reduce the avatar countdown when you kill the first Codex. After that, they appear randomly in missions, and you don't reduce the counter.

The things that reduce avatar progress are:
Completing the Blacksite mission
Killing the first Codex (not on Legend)
Completing the Forge mission
Completing the Codex Return Point mission
Killing what shows up when you skulljack a Codex
Destroying alien facilities (which removes the pips that particular facility gave)

Bug with the new DLC can only be answered with two scenarios:

1) you have a broken mod. disable them all and try again

2) verify game cache integrity, you may have corrupt file

If neither of those help you are stuck with horrible secondary choices:

1) start a new game and pray it doesnt happen again

2) wait for a new patch some time in the future (which still might not fix your current save game which would required starting over anyway)

Just FYI the most common bugs with the new patch are because of mods. Mod makers need to update them all to work with the new patch or there's no telling what possible bugs it will create almost randomly.

AH sad, thanks anyway kuno

^This is why I also posted in this thread. Wasn't 100% sure the OP actually had a bug or if his game state was similar to mine where I'm simply progressed to the point where it's forcing me to win or there was some alternative to lower the avatar progress and keep playing.

More or less, yea. I personally prefer to leave only 2 uncovered for farming rather than the 3 you have there but effectively yes. Whatever works for you, the bottom line is that panic is controllable as are the abduction mission locations if you wish to farm them.

Yep. Which will soon have a terror mission in Germany, which if you crush it will reduce it to 1, and reduce UK to 2.
