It also sounds like you need some computer cleanup. As a basic I encourage C-Cleaner from Piriform, as it is effective and safe. (Computer nerds flexing their cybermuscles are gonna hate on registry cleaning, to show off ... idkwhat, research if you're conflicted.) The point being, you should update your computer and graphics driver- and clean your registry, the second feature of the program. It doesn't hurt to clean up temporary files once in a while too. Registry should be checked after cleaning too, as it doesn't get everything the first time.
With things update, and bloat cleaned off your system, a good old restart usually results in a nice clean load for me- as well as prevents the program from hanging when you tell it to shut down.

Also I'm guessing you're using one of those older keyboards that doesn't come with the "Windows icon" key/button which acts just like pressing ALT + TAB but with only one key press :/
