That's what i did, not knowing what that mission entails since i just bought the game...
Well, somehow i made it out, all soldiers alive and not even gravely wounded and with the viper king down to about 1/3 health.
I hope the next time i encounter that thing i can take it down even without Bradford...
Just found the Berserker King so that should be interesting now that I have mag weapons.
I find that they make the game literally impossible to play without save scumming. Unless you know that they're even in the mission with you before you start, there's no way for you to prepare for them and manage to get off enough damage before you end up locked into a wipe situation. With most missions putting a time pressure on you, you're not given the luxary of setting up around every possible corner that a DLC Boss might be hiding behind.
I've already beaten two of them, again the only way to do so is to know that they're even in the mission with you and where you can expect to find them. The final boss is ridiculous having a ranged AoE that you cannot avoid whatsoever that tracks your entire team with multiple AoEs that do a lot of damage, stun, knock out (permenantly removing that soldier from that fight), burn, cause chain reactions with explosions, and the Boss is harder to hit every time it does it's special move, and it's capable of spamming it. Unless you KNEW he was there, and opened up on him with a save scummed setup, or simply waited to do the DLC until you were overpowered for them, you're looking at an easy wipe everytime with no chance whatsoever of doing enough damage to force them to retreat.
Oh, and I think they should be banned from Evac Missions with only 8 Turns, seeing as a King/Queen alone can take around 3 turns (On a good mission i.e. after you've save scummed and prepped for them).
It is a learning curve 2nd time it is a lot simpler cause you are beter prepared.
Anyway the Ruler no longer just single minded focus somebody like first week.
Where they were a pain and just kept on that person. (so probaly rebalanced)
First time I was like YAY NEW DLC .. ok lets go :P Bradford... and he died.
Well let say good thing wasn´t Ironman even if there is a restart . so had to reload and keep bradford alive.
But still it was hard as heck with conventional and kevlar and not prepared troops.
(highest was a SGT or LT) but the rest were easier. each one of them a suprise.
Infact cause of the conventional weapons and kevlar the viper king took down wasn´t within 1-2 missions. so when the berserker queen showed up she wasn´t that hard.
But you do learn from berserker queen to not bunch up your troops.
When the Archon came the devestate wasn´t such a problem. and the more HP on your troops makes one shot very unlikely.
Still they ad some variety to the mission :) definetly a shock and awe moments everytime you trigger them out of position.
Another campaign, I went with colonels and plasma weapons.
King appears
Salvo grenadier with 2x frost bomb hits first freeze.
Second grenadier with dragon rounds does rupture/shred. and also sets king on fire.
Ranger throws axe(no action cost, no reaction), then activates run&gun and runs up close to king.
King thaws.
Ranger does rapid fire. Dual crit with talon rounds HURTS.
King almost dead, creates the portal.
PsyOp Null Lances the King, dropping it dead.
Next mission, Berserker Queen makes an appearance, along with a pair of Archons, a viper and something else. Got real lucky there. My spec checks out nearby lamp-post: Yee-haa, easy option is Redirection(restore all spent action points). Cancel hack. Similar sequence: freeze, rupture/shred, axe, then sniper does lightning hands, and follows up with a rifle. Queen makes a portal, and ranger unloads rapid fire. Queen dead. Spec hacks the post, and my guys wipe up the regular enemies.
Archon king was more pain. Took two fights, and first time it seriously wounded two people.
