Viper King Showing Up TOO EARLY!
I'm playing the campaign on Veteran. I have access to weapon mods and PCS's. I cannot bring the Viper King down! I know that I can fight him again if he gets away, but he's wrecking my ♥♥♥♥! I'm on a VIP escort(rescue) with the new weapons, including the Frost Bombs and just conventional ones too, but I can't cause him to flee before he kills someone or wastes so much time that I can't even escape. I've tried a few diffrent strategies for the mission and none of them work.

You guys need to make it so that he doesn't show up so early or give me Bradford back :P

Eh leave that mission to the hardcore idiots ... like me... who died charging into the vipers nest.
With just kevlar and convetional weapons.

That's what i did, not knowing what that mission entails since i just bought the game...
Well, somehow i made it out, all soldiers alive and not even gravely wounded and with the viper king down to about 1/3 health.
I hope the next time i encounter that thing i can take it down even without Bradford...
So I ended up having to reload from before the mission and doing the same mission type, but this time he was not sitting on the EVAC and the VIP was already with me. (instead of having to bust them out of a cell) I ran the VIP out and stomped him, then on the following retaliation mission I was able to 1 shot him due to him only have 6 HP left.

Just found the Berserker King so that should be interesting now that I have mag weapons.
I've been seeing the posts about the new KING units and all i have to say is that they have cheap tactics with OP stats. Add the fact that dead units need to be retrieved to keep their equipment makes these missions death sentences. Weapon attachments that are basic infantry equipment that can be made anywhere cant be done unless retrieved from an enemy but we can create all kinds of armor and base weapons but attachments are a difficulty though for us. What is the logic behind this?
It helps if you can delay them from showing up by simply skipping the mission, in that case I would be skipping that mission for a long time.

I find that they make the game literally impossible to play without save scumming. Unless you know that they're even in the mission with you before you start, there's no way for you to prepare for them and manage to get off enough damage before you end up locked into a wipe situation. With most missions putting a time pressure on you, you're not given the luxary of setting up around every possible corner that a DLC Boss might be hiding behind.

I've already beaten two of them, again the only way to do so is to know that they're even in the mission with you and where you can expect to find them. The final boss is ridiculous having a ranged AoE that you cannot avoid whatsoever that tracks your entire team with multiple AoEs that do a lot of damage, stun, knock out (permenantly removing that soldier from that fight), burn, cause chain reactions with explosions, and the Boss is harder to hit every time it does it's special move, and it's capable of spamming it. Unless you KNEW he was there, and opened up on him with a save scummed setup, or simply waited to do the DLC until you were overpowered for them, you're looking at an easy wipe everytime with no chance whatsoever of doing enough damage to force them to retreat.

Oh, and I think they should be banned from Evac Missions with only 8 Turns, seeing as a King/Queen alone can take around 3 turns (On a good mission i.e. after you've save scummed and prepped for them).

Those King reactions seem to be to much. You move to shoot him, and before you can shoot he already moved away and out of sight, or he freeze you or caught you. it seems it was more luck that no one died in the nest mission, those babys viper already caused a heavy toll on my troops. If I knew what I will unleash, I surely wouln't have made this mission already. It already worse enough if reinforcments spawns just in the middle of your team.

It is a learning curve 2nd time it is a lot simpler cause you are beter prepared.
Anyway the Ruler no longer just single minded focus somebody like first week.
Where they were a pain and just kept on that person. (so probaly rebalanced)

First time I was like YAY NEW DLC .. ok lets go :P Bradford... and he died.
Well let say good thing wasn´t Ironman even if there is a restart . so had to reload and keep bradford alive.

But still it was hard as heck with conventional and kevlar and not prepared troops.
(highest was a SGT or LT) but the rest were easier. each one of them a suprise.
Infact cause of the conventional weapons and kevlar the viper king took down wasn´t within 1-2 missions. so when the berserker queen showed up she wasn´t that hard.
But you do learn from berserker queen to not bunch up your troops.
When the Archon came the devestate wasn´t such a problem. and the more HP on your troops makes one shot very unlikely.

Still they ad some variety to the mission :) definetly a shock and awe moments everytime you trigger them out of position.

I just ran into Viper King on Veteran on about mission 4-5. Can I make that not happen
Use the stun gun on the assault class. It stuns the viper king for 3 full turns.
Key to killing viper. Rank some guys up. Get at least magnetic weapons and a ranger with bladestorm. You also need a guy with the perk ever vigilant. Line troops up on over watch on top ledge. Then run ever vigilant perked guy in with a dash. If you are lucky you hit with the full over watch, including your unit with the harpoon. Run bradford in for a slash. Run the next ranger in for a slash. Now you have 2 rangers on Viper king that have blade storm. King takes a blade hit moving, then the last shot should be the killing blow.
I did try the nest first early in game. It was kinda nasty, but no losses, lots of wounds though, abnd king did escape. Starting the rulers early in game is definitely painful. That campaign did not go too well.
Another campaign, I went with colonels and plasma weapons.
King appears
Salvo grenadier with 2x frost bomb hits first freeze.
Second grenadier with dragon rounds does rupture/shred. and also sets king on fire.
Ranger throws axe(no action cost, no reaction), then activates run&gun and runs up close to king.
King thaws.
Ranger does rapid fire. Dual crit with talon rounds HURTS.
King almost dead, creates the portal.
PsyOp Null Lances the King, dropping it dead.

Next mission, Berserker Queen makes an appearance, along with a pair of Archons, a viper and something else. Got real lucky there. My spec checks out nearby lamp-post: Yee-haa, easy option is Redirection(restore all spent action points). Cancel hack. Similar sequence: freeze, rupture/shred, axe, then sniper does lightning hands, and follows up with a rifle. Queen makes a portal, and ranger unloads rapid fire. Queen dead. Spec hacks the post, and my guys wipe up the regular enemies.

Archon king was more pain. Took two fights, and first time it seriously wounded two people.
