Steam Deck Performance
Performance is straight-up awful on the Steam Deck. Considering there's a version of this game that runs on Switch, I'd assume a playable performance would be possible on the Steam Deck, but I can't seem to get 30fps

I've tried dropping the settings to the lowest on everything, and dropping the resolution to 720p, and I'm still getting 15-20fps when on a mission at most times. It's playable since it's turn based, but it looks and runs terribly, to the point where I'd say it's not worth playing.

Anyone getting anything better? Any advice?

Disclaimer: A lot of people seem to have trouble launching the game, I've had no trouble with the latest Proton, loads and bypasses the launcher automatically, no issues. I need to manually switch to controller mode in the settings, and then the controls are pretty comfortable.

The game is "playable" on the deck it is not "verified" so performance will vary.

This game has bad performance and huge fps spikes on modern PCs, it's gonna be a rough play on the deck.

Quite surprising since it is on Android lol

Guess Firaxis is too preoccupied with Midnight Suns.

Had to uninstall just now. May fan was blowing hard and hot just on the title screen. I had trouble even saving my options after switching option from mouse to controller, all buttons worked except X which was save and exit. You got further than I did if you managed to play though! But it’s just not worth the size on disk for me, a shame.

Strangely enough, I have the Epic Store version, and bought the Steam version to get the DLC and for the workshop support, but the Epic Store version actually performs better. Granted, I compared WOC to vanilla, so maybe that's the difference. I refunded and I'm playing the Epic Store version now. I also get between 25-45 fps on medium settings, mostly locked on 30fps except when loading.

Be careful playing the epic version, it has game breaking bugs that have long been patched in the steam version. You can find countless threads about mission objectives spawning outside the map.
I dont know what happened, but I downloaded an xcom2 update on oct 31st, and the performance issues were completely fixed! I went from 15fps to 45fps, sometimes 60. (although i set the refresh and fps cap to 40 when actually playing). Im not sure if it was the xcom2 update itself, or I got a proton update, but its infinitely more playable now. Previously I also had resolution issues, like the game was running at 15fps at half resolution upscaled, but now its sharp at 720p. anyway, whoever fixed it, thanks.

Is this PC Version not supporting the console controls? I am disappointed to use the touchpad and not having the buttons visible in the UI. Performance was alright, I even started on minimal and it looked ok on the deck screen.

You need to enable the gamepad in the game's settings and restart.

Hey! Just checking in here. Was it 45-60fps beginning to end even after base building?

I'm playing the same way - capped at 40fps and stays there most of the time except when there's a million 'the lost' then it might drop to like 30 on those missions. So happy I can play/revisit now.
