XCOM 2

Berserker Queen plus timed VIP mission = wtf ragequit
So the viper king on a retaliation mission, ok fine, doable, deable, i offed him on the second encounter. I didn't find him that hard and though him balanced on both encounters with good tactics.

Enter the berserker queen, on an already PITA timed mission, when I'm already irritated at how every mission feels like a zerg rush against that damn thing in the corner.

no, just Flipping no, hey let's be barely dinged by a full bolt caster 5 squad overwatch (keep in mind no mag weapons on this squad, as I foolishly didn't bring my mag equipped rangers, just SPARK)

Runs up, there's half the squad stunned, never mind i'm cheesing this fight by abusing a meta mechanic and somehow blocking the giant ♥♥♥ alien by standing on the ladder square.

Never mind she's getting extra turns cause I tripped the VIP from an los lookie across the map.

Finally runs, great! Now i've just got a combat mech on the roof across from me, two of my squad at half health, and an advent pod plus the transport that came in because the VIP again was tripped though multiple walls. and that frozen faceless behind my squad.

oh, and 6 turns left now, since I just had to waste 3 trying not to have my squad beaten to a plup by the aforementioned cheeseball tactic.

If this wasn't a timed mission i'd honestly be fine with fighting my way out of it after that. I can see how to win it from where i'm sitting.

Expect for that %*%#*#%$* TIMER!

This isn't even anywhere near balanced fair or fun. As it stands I just ragequit back to the map, and I'm going to see if I can reroll the mission without dealing with the BS I'm seeing.

Someone needs to tell Fraxis and devs in general mandatory fail states aren't fun. and if you're going to include something like the rulers you need to balance them to take every situation into account. I don't mind losing to bad tactics, I do mind losing to a situation where no tactic can beat it. as I know it would take 3 turns to just run across the map, much less kill the 7 targets in front of me in a 6 turn span.

Now if you'll excuse me, can someone point me to the nearest instruction or mod to disable the one thing that otherwise ruins a very enjoyable game?

Just as an update, I won (after a lot of save scum and dumb luck) with 2 turns to spare. Previous gripe however still stands, as thanks to zerging it and the queen I got out with that entire squad now of it for 3-10 days depending.
Obligatory 'git gud'.

To be fair, i would say if you are fighting zerker queen with tier 1 weapons, you might be significantly behind the curve. Also the VIP missions tend to be harder and it feels like rulers tend to appear more often on those. Seems like you just got punished by going under strength.
Generál tips tho - utilize frost nade and gas nade is gift from god because it lowers her chance to hit. Action efficiency is also important, every soldier ideally takes only one action and that is shooting. If she is only one activated, dont need to worry about cover, feel free to stand in the open, just dont cluster too much.

If you are fighting zerker queen with conventional weapons. means you one shot the Viper King.
The idea of the rulers isn´t kill them as fast as possible. but stall it out a bit.
Or else you one shot the zerker queen and get the archon king. and you are royally F without mag or plasma weapons. that thing would rip apart the squad in no time.

even with repeaters on everybody.

Knowing when you cant win and getting the hell out is also a valid tactic some missions are not worth the reward

I got lucky with my first succesful normal iron man game. Executed both the viper king and berserker queen. The berserker queen only managed to do some paltry damage to one soldier before it got executed (after sustaining heavy damage already).

I'm not sure, but I've read that ruler encounters always happen every second mission. So keep track of that. If you're second mission is a timed mission, you may want to skip it. The facility missions are great for encountering rulers.

Also, you can simply wait with triggering the rulers until you think you're ready for them. You can get the equipment without triggering the rulers. Then when you've got the equpment, you can do the viper king mission. That's what I'm doing now while I'm attempting commander iron man.

hilariously enough two missions later as I set up an ambush for him.

"Why did I just get three achivements before the archon moved into my overwatch zone annnd that was a repeater kill."

THAT'S XCOM!

Truer words were never spoken.

Though I still say the ruler mechanic from the polar opposite end of things with a repeater kill ws really not well thought out. I'm not gonna object though to this little bit of video game karmic justice, but I am a bit miffed that I didn't discover if the AK's devistate could be baited by a mimic beacon.

On a side note my sharpshooter spec'ed down the pistol side with shadowhunter is now wearing the RAGE suit. Talk about spec'ed for any engagement range.

This is my first attempt at x-com 2 in the level bellow legendary and playing ironman. I always play ironman on my first attempts because savescumming takes all the callenge out of a game and i find no sense of playing without challange. Till now the game was going really well, it was difficult and enjoyable but suddently i had a "kill VIP" mission (wich are really hard already) with "surprise" this berserken queen on it. You just can't do ♥♥♥♥, it's a 100% team wipe because or she will kill you, or her minions or if not time will. This quest is doable if you savescum (of course) or if you've played before and know how to act against this boss, but if it's your first xcom2 in ironman its a team wipe for 99% of people (probably because of time). I'ts not just berserker queen, it's bosses in general, they are a big problem if you are going iron man on your first attempt and they take all real strategy from the game, specially if you are putting them in a fking time limit mission. Hard challange in this game seemed fair till now, but bosses on firs ironman just seem unfair.

Yes I could restart but ♥♥♥♥ no, I dont wan't to replay again the same ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ content. I'm not buying more XCOM 2 games if they are going to keep adding this kind of bosses wich make impossible to ironman your first attempts, the only way of playing I enjoy.

Sorry for the rant, everybody can play as they like and enjoy the game, but for my kind of playstyle it's just a game killer. I succeded with viper and even wining I didn't like it at all, but this berkerker in a timed mission hell no, goodbye, don't wan't to have this kind of surprises again in the future.

Sorry, Pakinov, but IronMan isnt meant to be easily beatable as your first attempt at the game. IronMan is added challange for people familiar with the game. And for people who can loose and are not sore about it. Demanding the game to be designed so that every n00b can beat ironman means dumbing the game down to CoD-levels. No thanks.
Its like ranting about DarkSouls being too hard because you cant beat it first try without getting hit... Git Gud!
