Once you have one of each, the game will be slightly more random, but will attempt to give you, I thionk 3 or 4 of each, so if you have that many of one, you wont get any more until you have that many of all.
And then it is random.
It may be that in legend mode, it doesnt attempt to give you some of each.
The trick is, to promote a soldier, and if they turn into what you want, save the game and move to the next. If the game doesnt give you what you want, reload, and try again or with a different soldier.
If the game just will not give you the right things, leave some as rookies, go on the next mission with some new rookies, and try again.
There are also some mods that can get around this.
Finally, just beeline for the training building, and force train your rookies to the right class, if all else fails.
I see, but that shouldn't matter for the first gate crasher mission correct? Because you're guaranteed to get one of each class. What I'm saying is each specific character is consistantly pulling the same class everytime I restart a campaign after promoting. If it's truely random it should be at a 25% chance each time I finish gatecrasher, but the one guy I don't want on sharpshooter is pulling it literally 43 times out of 50 gate crashers, and even as we speak he just pulled it again. I know I can mod/cheat/train etc; at this point I'm just curious how this can happen if it's truely random.
Yeah I know, and I probably will. I'm just saying is it truely random or not? I'm just doing this as an experiment now at this point. If no one knows then I'll probably go to 100 and see what percentages I end up with
Relayable? And I just hit 100 already and did the math, feel free to to it 100,000 times if you wish.
I don't even understand how to reply to this.. Did you read the thread? I answered your question before you even asked it, at least twice.
I've tried to get one of my soldiers from a pool to be assigned specific classes too, but after trying maybe 2-3 times I realized it was a waste of my time because I was convinced I have no control over it. It's so much faster and efficient to change a random rookie to look like the soldier, then train them as the class you want; for me customizing soldiers takes way less time than completing another gate crasher. Going through the first mission 50 times seems a bit pointlenss to be honest, especially since what you want to achieve can be achieved more easily using a different method.
I know you specifically asked whether class determination is completely random or not, and I have no clue. So why bother commenting? I wanted to ask you:
What is the real problem here?
Is it that
- you want specific classes to be assigned to specific soldiers (after your first mission), or
- you want to analyze the randomness of class determination on a soldier?
The reason I am asking you is that I (and maybe some of other commenters too) assumed the former is what you really want to achieve, and I think people are just trying to provide a better solution to the problem you're having.
Like.. Why even bump this thread if you don't read it. Again, everything you've mentioned/asked has been answered in the OP or as a response by me in this thread to someone else. I'm unsubbing to this thread since I already figured out my own answer anyway, so just let it die please.
