Basically, you always have several teams, at the start maybe 4 or so, with 5 soldiers each, that are infiltrating diferent missions at the same time, so basically every 2 or 3 ingame days you might have a mission, sometimes more and sometimes less.
in short? hmmm ... let's say that you have to take care of more missions, more micromanaging soldiers, like more equipment, you also only build single weapons or armors and don't upgrade all of them anymore, every soldier also always has 3 equipment slots, you also constantly have 30+ soldiers being busy later on, you need to evacuate after most missions, since you are just resistance fighters so you can't stand around for too long or Advent will come and kill you, you also need to take care of the Rebels in your haven by assigning them jobs, since you need them to do the intel job to even find any missions or scan with the Avenger for missions ...
Btw, I might not know the difficulty you usually use, but you totally shouldn't go above Veteran on your first playthrough. the Long War adds so many new and not always openly visible mechanics to the game, like the whole geoscape now actually feels like you're leading the Resistance and Advent is actively trying to work against you by sending more soldiers into regions where you're very active and they even slow down the AVATAR project if they consider you as a serious threat to send in even more soldiers on to the world.
I guess nowadays you can simply do LWotC instead of Long War 2 since it's in a rather solid state. If you install LWotC be sure to also use the 8 required mods listed on the right of its workshop page (and the alien hunter highlander if you own the alien hunter DLC, as described further down in the description of the LWotC mod) And don't use ironman mode, since it's not super safe. And consider to reload if stuff goes too wrong. It's a really long campaign and having to restart because one horribly failed mission after 30h is quite annoying. Though I guess on Veteran you could still win after a party wipe .. but it still hurts a lot.
I'd say that in general LWotC just feels more fun than just WotC since Advent feels way more alive and working against you and you also have more things you can do against them and in general you can just do more stuff the strategic layer
I guess you could also join the LwotC Discord if you have any problems or questions or want some resources like a tech tree.
...seems like I'm really bad in trying to really explain it in short. Let's just say that it's a very different experience.
