Battle Scanner only works for 1 turn
Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes, because that's normal.
The scanners only reveal an area around them for the turn they are used after which you need to try and come up with another plan (and/or adjust the ones you have) based on what they revealed.

*Edit* This is also part of the reason the games balancing gives you two uses of them per item and they only use one action point to throw without ending that soldiers turn.

I always thought they lasted more than one turn. Like 4. Maybe 2? Or maybe I am just making ♥♥♥♥ up.

Battle scanners and scanning protocol only show you the enemy for that turn. If you want to be able to follow the enemy in the fog of war, you need a Reaper with Target Definition perk. Anything they see remains permanently visible.

They lasted for a few rounds in XCOM Enemy Unknown/Within if you've ever played those, might be thinking of that

Yeah, I've got that. Does wonders for my QoL. But Dervish mentioned the thing I was thinking of.
