Advanced Armor?
The WAR suit isn't advanced armor? It's a variant of warden armor and has an iron man wrist launcher! Do I really have to choose between an extra item and the rocket launcher?

Why do you say it's not advanced?

Yes, you have to choose.

The WAR Suit is specialized gear, it is designed to let a Grenadier or Blademaster Ranger hurt aliens badly. It is not storage space for a Specialist. If you're that pressed for gear, get a mod that adds a item-specific slot to all armors.

I would have thought my punctuation conveyed my sarcasm.

I say it is not advanced because that is what the game says for the tooltip when I mouse over the locked item slot icon. It looks like you believe it is advanced gear as well. Thus my being mystified.

Not pressed for gear...was just looking for as much boom as I could carry.

You're not picking between a rocket launcher mount or an extra item. The rocket launcher (plus the extra armor and health) is the extra item :steamfacepalm:.

Personally I would recommend to give these suits to your grenadier that you have been training up in the later abilities of the Demolition Expert line. As all their abilities that work with grenades also work with the heavy weapons.

Also once you build one of these suits you unlock a new option in the Proving Ground that lets you build new types on heavy weapons that can be swapped out with the default rocket launcher.

Sarcasm is overrated these days. The blaster rocket is all the boom! Tier 3 rocket launcher and 2 rockets added is probably maximum boom for the loadout. If that doesn't help deal with clearing the undersea base, i don't know what will.

Careful with the spoilers, please.

I can get more rockets/better rocket launchers? I researched it again, got the flamethrower, and was like "♥♥♥♥ that".

To quote myself.

What I didn't mention was simnply that like the normal armor, these suits also have a final form. One guess what that means for the weapons.
And yeah the flamethrower is, to put it politely, not what it was in the last game.
It has a very niche use against Rulers if you don't have any other way to set them on fire, but that is about it.
Of the basic heavy weapons there's only one that isn't that good. I think you can guess which.

For the next tier up if you want all the boom there's one that is sometimes called by people on this forum as the "♥♥♥♥ Everything In This Cardinal Direction Cannon!".
And no, it's not the blaster. If anything is still standing after that be sure to give (what is left of) them a round of applause.

There's also another that at first glance will look even worse than the flame thrower. Right up until you give one to a SPARK with the Rainmaker ability.

Not just rocket launcher, but you can also get shredder guns, plasma Blasters, homing missile add-ons instead of the rocket launcher.

The rocket launcher is a weapon mod made for franchise veterans who still like the Heavy loadout. It lets former EU/EW players get their mojo on by dropping a building full of aliens and sometimes dropping the aliens from a height for extra laughs. The device is supposed to be for a Heavy class mod, but big badda-boom works in any game. Just remember that if the Rocketeer moves to position, wait until next turn to use it.

Incoming Flamethrower rant here. I'm not as down on the basic flamethrower attachment as Amanoob, but by the time WAR suit comes out it's useless, especially on Legendary where the enemies just don't notice it. And for some reason the Burning effect % isn't that high on organic foes. It's a good harassment technique against charging enemies in vanilla, but that's about it. Yeah, the FT itself has a low burn rate, but the 'Lid or Berserker that runs through a blazing hex is 100% afflicted. :steamfacepalm: The advanced version that can be equipped on the WAR suit has a better Burning rate, but compared to the other two heavy weapons at that tier which grant Schwarzenegger hero levels of devastation, it's still weak stuff. (YMMV on chortling at burning melee foes randomly racing about the board and watching burning buildings collapse into rubble.) Best thing I can recommend for the Exo/WAR FT is to wait for WOTC, and equip it for Lost City missions so you can mass-kill zombies without a noisy blast.

Rant addendum, in Long War 2 the Technical's flamethrower is worth using because:
1. The Technical starts with it, and in early game the organic enemies are charcoal.
2. There is a skill tree for FT use that makes developing a firebug useful.
3. The tier FT upgrades improve damage to keep it viable with rockets and grenades.

I equipped a hellfire projector on my Spark last campaign in a mission with Lost and nearly died laughing when he crit a whole pack for 20+ damage each. Lost are vulnerable to fire anyway, so it was totally unnecessary. But hilarious.

That wasn't the weapon I was thinking of, but that was the effect I was getting at.
