XCOM 2
Beta strike ?
I'm looking at starting a new game withs mods for the first time, but I am looking at the beta strike and thinking that sounds good, slug fest gun fights.

Extended timers, great. But what about fatigue, lengthy missions cripple soldiers with fatigue, is it just as bad with beta strike enabled ?

What about soldier recovery time on injuries ?

I think the recovery times are reduced per hp point lost with beta strike, though I am not entirely sure.
Even with extended timers I rarley need more than the normal turns.

And iirc, if you turn on Beta Strike, the fatigue System is adjusted to this.

Thats sounds pretty good, I was quite worried about fatigue being a major factor.

Beta strike is fun and will change strategy in a number of instances, sectoid is much of a pain in the begining for exemple as it takes serious firepower to get it down before it mind controls something.
I love Beta Strike! I simply couldn't play without it now. The amount of HPs on the Archon King has to be seen to be believed. And not being able to wipe out a whole pod in the early missions--very cool, intense and interesting fights!
Beta strike sounds amazing, but at the present I'm having issues with selecting and finding mods.

Some have wotcxcommunityhighlander mod required, not sure what that is.

Then on the other hand I can't find a mod that gives xcom abilities to psi ops.

Found a couple of spark mods which I don't know if they will conflict with each other.
Beta strike really does turn maps into a slog, with laods of enemy health to blast through, but your soldiers can take a few hits and not die. At the end of a mission, you are healed half of the damage 'for free' and then must heal the other half normally, and given that you will take more hits, you will have more soldiers in the med bay, so get more recruits to send into the field! It makes a significant difference to the feel of the game, howevr even with beta strike, by the time you get to the end game, you are one turn annihilating pods again, although you do have to be a bit better about it, as there is less wiggle room for mistakes if you want to do that.

All up, I liked Beta strike, but it does drag out the combats a bit. Ultimately I prefer modding for more enemies, rather than tougher enemies, but I do recommend playing a Beta strike game at least once.

I think I heard that there was a conflict with highlander and the recent legacy update.
highlander's been fixed for about a week now
personally, i found it annoying fighting into all the disabling enemies you face early: sectoids, lancers, snakes, priests who can take quite a beating before going down with double health

True, but your squad also gets double health, so you can take a beating too. Even though it takes more effort to down those big threats now, you no longer face the threat of seeing a soldier get one shotted in full cover because rng said eff you.
The idea of Beta strike is cool: to extend battle in the battlefield so it looks even more to "real" battlefield. All items are certainly needed that are carried.

I tried it and eventually I found it a little bit boring to me. I prefer kinda fast-paced fights in XCOM 2 so, you see. It slowed it down. I liked it at some point but I prefer shorter fights. I think it comes just to personal taste.

The moment when I became frustrated partially for Beta strike was when I was attacking Chosen's stronghold with mag weapons and predator armours. There was that Altar (can't remember its correct name) in the final room that needs to be shotted down to deny Chosen's reviving progress. It had 152 hp. And when I was shooting it there was plenty of enemies summoned on the battlefield that were at the same time attacking my heroes. So I felt I can never take down that Altar because it has so much HP and so have enemies. I think I didn't play the scenario the best but I couldn't forget all the HP I had to deal with my mag weapons that do just about 5-10 damage.

You make a fine point there Don Savage.
I will admit I am just now trying beta strike out on my first campaign since buying war of the chosen and I have been very much enjoying it, but I can see how it would be frustrating in a situation where you have to kill something quickly and you are barely scratching it.
Yes, I think it requires different kind of approach to XCOM 2 as you can't for example always one shot enemies at the beginning of your turn. Beta strike offers different strategy for the game, like some certain mods, that pulls you away from the base game but gives you more variety.
