XCOM 2

Forced Iron Man? Lovely. Just... lovely.
Saw the new DLC. Missions set in the interval between the two games, explaining some of what went down and how the Resistance got build. Sweet! Mostly, though, I was just happy to see some new content. Friggin' love this game! Got 200 hours in it already!

Started up the new Legacy-missions, and saw that they are ENFORCED Ironman. Decided to give it a shot anyway. Right off the bat, 80%-shots miss repeatedly, and what few shots manage to tag the first set of enemies deals minimum damage. An alien then one-shots Bradley. That's XCOM, baby! And that's why I've never touched the Ironman-mode. Well, I guess I can always 'Reset' the mission... aaaand that gives you a -5000 point penalty. Meaningless at this point, but if I carry on with the 'campaign', that will be downright crippling.

Whoever decided to make this new content Ironman Only deserves a solid slap. What the HELL is wrong with just making it an OPTION? Some people like Ironman! I don't GET it, but hey, diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks, and all that junk. Let the people who enjoy Ironman play Ironman, and let those who DON'T avoid it. As long as everyone's having fun playing the game, that's what matters, right? SO WHY?!? Why tease us with "New content, but oh wait, it's only for TEH HARDCOREZ! If you aren't into that, then run on home, kiddie." It's just... mean. Pointlessly mean.

Forcing Ironman is just plain dumb. The developers should allow folks to play their way - in a single player game, it has ZERO effect on other people.

However, in this case, we are not forced into Ironman at all. Learn where the save files are. Then at the start of each of the seven missions, just make a little copy of the save file (and the profile binary) to somewhere else on your hard drive. If mission 6 goes to hell and you don't fancy repeating the first 5, then go back to main menu, copy the safe files back over the existing ones, and try mission 6 again.

Of course, the ironman fanboy/fanatics will hate this idea, but who cares, it's a single player game, do what you enjoy. :)

Way to insult some stranger on the internet for not subscribing to your gaming philosophy! C'mon, how does it in any way affect your experience playing your game whether or not some other player wants (or needs) to reload their game?

Nobody is insulting anybody.

But the topic keeps coming up, non?

And if somebody that likes Football (Fußball) decides to rather not play simply cause they fear that:

'But what if I and my team loose? I dont want that I wanne win 100 % of the time with not even the possibility of loosing' and you then tell them that thats just not the way it is meant to be then youre not insulting anybody.

You just state facts.

The chance of loosing, the unkonwn outcome is what makes any kind of game fun in the first place. A mentality that wants to win only with no challenge is a bad mindset. It is our duty to tell ppl that they are wrong and that ironman is the real way a game should be played.

We gotta 'cure' those that cannot see the light yet. Help them, and shepherd them into the light so they are brought back on the right path.

4 sets of 7 missions with automatic level-ups, self-replacing soldiers and free upgrades, on veteran difficulty, way too hard for the average gamer, they should have just given all the stuff away so they can mod rookie into being easier and finally beat the normal game

you want gold? git gud and play nightmare

This is a single-player computer game. It's purpose is purely for the enjoyment of said single player. If someone wants to play Ironman, all power to them. If they want to reload a lot and use mods to make the game unbelievably trivial to play, again, all power to them. Everything in between is also totally fine.

All players of all playstyles pay their money, the developers pocket it and make more games for everyone to enjoy. Everyone wins. Flexibility is always the best policy, especially from a business perspective as the developer can make more sales and build more content with the proceeds, and so on.

A tiny minority of toxic individuals on internet forums who insist everyone who doesn't do it "their way" is wrong do not actually matter. They should just be ignored as arrogant fools.

Play whatever way you enjoy.

The easy fix here is to be able to uncheck Iron Man which would also disable the score. Personally, I do not mind the forced Iron Man for these little challenges, but there is nothing wrong with having options.

My money goes towards games with challenges. More flexibility ruins challenges. I rarely buy games that let you quicksave/quickload, now, and I've noticed more forced auto-saving and games with ironman modes have come out, even some with enforced ironman mode.

I wholeheartedly disagree that you think that "more flexibility" should be permitted for the base game, which is released unmodified in a state in which it is intended to be played. You already have mods available to change these things, so there's you're ultimate flexibility right there. But for those of us consumers who have purchased a GAME with obstacles and challenges, we would very much prefer to have any number of restrictions as long as the game remains fun and enjoyable to us.

While that does not please you along with several others, I think you simply need to fall back to an important life lesson: You can't make everyone happy.

During the alien turn, Exit to menu and reload. It'll set you back to beginning of your turn. It doesn't give you a whole lot of room to manuever, but as long as you don't rush things it gives you more than enough chances.

For me, what sucks is apparent lack of customization, that's what i play for. Without the ability to customize my soldiers, they might as well be cardboard cutouts (except for central)

This.

Tho the Central Missions have some story-related characters so maybe not.

We should definitely be allowed to use custom soldiers in the other missions tho. Why that was never considered is obviously an oversight.

Getting gold means no restarting AT ALL- I managed to complete 'blast from the past' with a total of three guys wounded. Two were next to a car that caught fire from alien weapons in the third mission, the third was more seriously wounded but still able to fight, thanks to a gatekeeper. Still didn't get gold.

To get gold you MUST pass every mission flawlessly, and do it on one run. Any mission that involves avatars and codexes is as much luck as skill since it's impossible to predict where they'll appear when hit.
I got gold on the first try on Nightmare with 4 deaths... You gain bonus from kills if you go faster so Overwatch spam will decrease your score.

Google where XCOM 2 save files are and make a copy of them to your desktop every turn if you want to savescum.

Does setting difficulty to nightmare increase your score?

Well if you couldnt get gold with 0 deaths yes I would assume so... More enemies? Didnt try the other difficulty.

Quote from the game Hand of Fate 2, if you savescum:
"It is entirely up to you if you play by the rules of the game, or if you try to bypass them. You only rob yourself."

Nightmare doesn't increase your score but it does spawn more enemies leading to the potential to gain more score.

I got gold in 2 of 4 (very nearly 3 of 4 but my restart and roughly 9 injuries took me about 4K short so that one was doable as well) with several restarts and injuries on Story difficulty.

I came well short on It Came From The Sea that one you might have to do Nightmare to get gold.

Ironman start is a ♥♥♥♥♥, once you start to train those Grenadier, next step is to get Predator Armor for armor and extra utility slots, then better weapons and Warden and Plasma Guns. Grenadiers just love Battlescanner, you can kill them without seeing.

3 Grenadier, Medic and Robot Killer it will become easy cake.

Once again, there is no forced ironman whatsoever. The "Restart" button is in the options. What are you complaining about?!
