They're alien reptiles therefore they may not be boobs. Maybe they're another organ that just looks like boobs.

This is confirmed by Tygen in his autopsy reports. Though it doesn't explain why civi-Vipers have them. Ethereals must be lazy or something.

could be over sized venom sacs. a creature of that size, you'd expect the females to be supportive of their young and very aggressive, a biological trait of females.
