Ctrl+F for LostLoudSoundThreshold and change it from 30 to 100 or higher.
Also set LostMaxWaves=0.
They will still show up but will not endlessly spawn.
I'd prefer they remain in the game.
Nevertheless, the devs couldn't possibly please everyone.
I don't want to devise my entire strategy around ladders, but that's what lost missions typically boil down to. I've never felt satisfied beating a lost mission ... first few times sure, but these days they feel like a 9 to 5 event.
No alien looks like them, no alien comes at you in a swarm, they add to the destroyed world taken over by aliens and their mechanics with chain-shot is fun, while their mechanic in regards to explosions is challenging.
I think they have their place in the alien roster and are one of the welcome additions that made WotC so much better than vanilla XCOM2.
I have had Gatekeeper missions in which the Reaper has all the kills, your rookies will be promoted. So if I do that early lost mission with at least one corporal I can feed that trooper kills so that they make sergeant and thus I have five soldiers for the first retaliation mission, which is handy when fighting the chosen with low ranked soldiers.
