XCom missing a Save Folder?
I am having issues with saves, and I just went to look to try a solution, and my xcom is missing the save folder, there is nothing. My issue is that anytime I try to save my game it doesn't save anything. Would this be the source of the problem?

on windows they're saved in:

C:\Users\ [[-user-]] \Documents\My Games\XCOM2\XComGame\SaveData

or if you're playing war of the choosen in:

C:\Users\ [[-user-]] \Documents\My Games\XCOM2 War of the Chosen\XComGame\SaveData

The game should normally create these folder and files on it's own the first time you're saving.

Thats the issue it doesn't make the file period, I've checked in both of these places. When I save my game and try to load it even immediately it just says its corrupted.

Check your AV settings, it maybe overzealous in its ransomware protection

Yeah, the anti ransomware stuff is the most likely culprit.

Haven't touched the game in almost a year. Last time I touched it it was right before the Chosen assault and you had to defend the ship. I upgraded to a better system but kept the external drive the game was saved on. Decided to fire it up again to kill some time today and turns out there was an auto save #50 that had me with normal kinetic guns, no faction units, and 1 sharpshooter. Idk where my saves went but I'll try digging around in my old system. I was expecting the steam cloud to save my progress but that has been very inconsistent in my experience.
I guess this is a good opportunity for me to try and recover my stellaris playthrough that was almost completed too. That save file also isn't in the steam cloud

Early on with windows 8 and 10 after updates the mydocuments folder was getting write protected. Right click on them and check.

An Update for this comment. The save file showed up when I specifically launched the WOTC version instead. The launcher was launching vanilla xcom 2 and was loading that save. My WOTC save was loaded after launching it. It was my first time using the new Launcher as well.
