Red shield icons

Sometimes when you hover a cover the shield thingy indicating how much defense the cover gives turns red. What does that mean?

That its a "fullcover" spot but the enemy can see you and you want benifit from the cover in relation to the shooter

[Zyrrashijn]

The red shield/half-shield indicates that this position is currently flanked by an enemy.
