Can someone explain this?

My soldier (yellow arrow) melee attacked at the yellow circle to kill an enemy (using the chosen sword) and when he melee attacked, the roof (red circle) collapsed and caused my templar (red arrow) to fall through to the ground.

Is the sword like a rocket launcher and has blast back or is this a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ bug that should've been fixed in the first few weeks of release?

did the enemy shoot some overwatch fire that could have taken out the roof as you went to melee?

Nope, I activated reaper so I could melee and then fire at the next enemy. Only action that occured was the melee attack.

I get a lot of weirdness like that. Windows blowing out on different floors because one of my guys jumped through a window on the first floor. Cars/Everything exploding just ...because. Not so much in Long War, but WOTC...WOW...don't stand near anything. And YES I've seen what you are describing. I wish I could give you a solution, but sadly no. Sorry. This game was seriously "rushed" from all the glitches and stuff I've seen. Key-bindings need to be re-done EVERY time I start the game...long weird pauses..(Console bloat)...left in...ect.

Each weapon has an envdamage value against breakable objects. Higher tier swords have higher envdamage. Long war 2 only increased the envhp who are compiled in different source codes. It doesn't mean you can't make a car explode by hitting with a gun who has 1 damage, cars don't follow any other rule than if it was damaged by something it will explode on next turn.

Solution: Find the hp values for envhp and envdamage in the ini files and change them.

Swords are real weird with destroying cover. I havn't been unfortunate enough to have the roof come out from under a soldier because of it, but I have been left without cover because for some reason the sword slash in one direction also destroyed the wall to the left.

Ok there were clear bugs when Long war 2 and now WOTC were applied. There is a wonderful tutorial on cover and how the melee attacks damage areas and cover and why the line of sight is not common sense to floors. I am not sure they ever addressed it.
It does explain why swords and melee units destroy starting and ending points of an attack. Hopefully this helps
