Anyway you only lose the equipment of dead soldiers if you evac while leaving there corpse behind (or squadwipe).
So yes you should never get it back if that is the case.
And yes, they are gone for good. Was in vanilla with the alien hunter weapons the same.
I dont know what people refer to by "in your favor" but on legendary the game favors aliens because all research, buildings and contacts take twice as much time and cost twice as much resources (which means its even harder to get them in the first place) while avatar project keeps progressing with the same speed as on other difficulties.
I still remember that one time i had 3 days left on doomclock considering that they give you 28.
25 days of avatar project being near-completion and nothing i could do about it because i had no resources and no time.
Yeah, no, not playing that emotional wreck of "the ♥♥♥♥ is this ♥♥♥♥ " ever again.
On-topic: year, they are lost forever.
On my first playthrough my snipers kept getting captures for interogation by advent (stupid ass time limited missions) and that's how i lost shadowkeeper and it took me 3 playthroughs to get "upgrade all alien hunter DLC weapon to max level" achievement.
You know, you can recover captives and their gear, right?
Maybe it was the wrong sniper or something.
the only reason you could complain about the avatar project on any difficulty including legendary is if you screw up the strategic layer. You need to actually plan ahead, especially for legendary difficulty.
The moment facilities were popping i was starting to work towards them.
I just didn't had enough time and resources to build resistance comms, installing radio relays and then establish 80int (default cost!) contacts (which were taking 7-8 days each) to reach it in time.
It was me doing my best against them casually winning the game by building facility on the other side of the planet.
The only problem i can think of that could cause this is that it was taking me forever to build shadow chamber to progress the story missions and slow down the avatar with them.
And again: doubled time for clearing the floor, building the thing (with hellish ton of resources) and themln researching stuff in it.
It seems that using "faster building" HQ bonus is mandatory on legendaty.
Also supplies > intel
and engis > scinetists.
Too bad i had hell ton of other things to scan. Including the 7 days radio relays and conctact establishments.
I still won the game but it was a train wreck of emotions all through.
Never again.
It just refers to the fact that lower difficulties give a hidden boost to your chance to hit rolls. If you missed two 50 % shots in a row on commander the next 50% shot has a 80% chance to hit.
Not the increased difficulty of a higher difficulty setting.
Still does not help me though, my soldiers keep wasting their full-squad overwatch ambushes on incoming enemy forces.
Like that one time my 130 accuracy sniper on a roof missed 2-3 killzone shots on incoming enemies in a row.
The ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ best... Tracer rounds is the only option, it seems.
Also they prevent me from having mental breakdowns.
Yeah, carry him out.. with 3 squad members scrambling to the extraction point trying to get there in 12 turns, surrounded by aliens, no evac if mission goes wrong, the Warlock maxed out, mind controlling my best soldier, my 2nd best dazed and my 3rd DEAD. So unfair.
