Experimental grenades / ammo / heavy / armor, why they won't go away?
Why do i get repeat things from doing that project, for instance i have acid grenades, but i get more of them... Is it supposed to just be random and keep on trying until you get somehting new?

The major issue for me is not knowing if i got all the possibilities or not, i don't want to waste elirium cores into more of the same things that i already own.

How does that work?

You can repeat these items as many times as you want to.
Every time it makes 1 new item in your stores, this could be a repeat of an item you have or something new.
There is a very real possibility your could pay 20 elerium cores and get 20 acid grenades.

What I tend to do is make sure I have something available to use regardless of what it is, and then hope I gain better items from missions, scanning and other sources.

Yes, its a crappy game mechanic.

I am trying to do the heavy weapons achievement, which is a kill with each one, so i am trying to get them all, but i get repeats. It's very weirdly designed. Especially with how extremely rare cores are.

If it only costs supplies, maybe, since at some point you might have too much and this could have been a supply sink, but cores don't make sens imo.

Every time you take experimental grenades/ammo/armor project you get a random item.
As for all the possibilites:
Ammo: Tracer, Talon, AP, Venom and Dragon rounds
Grenades: Acid, Gas and Incendiary
Armor: Hazmat, Stasis and Plated Vest.
Heavy weapons:
1)Experimental Heavy Weapon: Flamethrower and Shredder Gun
2)Experimental Powered Weapon: Blaster Launcher, Hellfire Projector, Shredstorm Cannon and Plasma Blaster.

Also:
Heavy weapon: (Rocket Launchers don't need to be crafted), Flamethrower, Shredder Gun
Powered heavy weapon: Plasma Blaster, Blaster Launcher, Hellstorm (name? it's a slightly less terrible flamethrower), Shredstorm Cannon.

Note that the powered heavy weapons require you to own a WAR Armor to craft them (or maybe the tier 3 Spark armor also enables them? not sure), but they can be used by EXO suits and Sparks with any armor.
