he tech'd so fast.
then I'd make the biggest units with drop pods and clean so no upkeep and just drop them on my enemies en masse.
thats All i really recall about alpha centauri.
they went with UFO:enemy unknown from 1994.
and who can argue with wikipedia.
Great callback. Man I loved that game, it was almost like a piece of art. Those secret project movies were great. Loved that you could rename and update the bios of the faction leaders. If ever there was a game I wish they would remake, it's this one. And I'm not talking Beyond Earth.
Yep, that's SMAC. I've still got it on disc, but I picked it up on GOG just because. Civilization:Beyond Earth came close to it, especially after the expansion, but I don't think anything can ever truly replace SMAC.
I love reading this! I'm about to start XCOM2
Although I would advise renaming Apocalypse.. obviously naming Coporate Societies / MIC as apocalyptic isnt something that has worked out so well for anyone doing it.. so a name change would be good.
(BTW MIC is exactly what xcom IS.. bring back holostimulators for research/discovery/manufcture/sale to increase revenue and XCOM public perception? Maybe make several *fun toys* to be researched/manufactured/sold for profit/increase public accecptance... and maybe each teir has diminishing returns.. ie sales slow as the game moves on)
I'm playing XCOM 2 for the first time after having played XCOM EU/EW and I'm loving it.
I can only recommend playing ironman. It gets very emotional and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ tense that way. Youre missing out if you dont go ironman. Havent beaten it on lgendary yet but i reached gauss weapons and everything looks good so far. I tried playing without Ironman but its not the same. I would understand though if ppl played with save games but treated it as an ironman game. But if theres some weird glitch they can use a save file before that mission or something like that. Apart from that....go ironman. I think thats how they wanted it to be played. So that you grow so stupidly attached to your tough hombres gangster gang having killed ♥♥♥♥ loads of monsters.
You know, ive never had the balls to go ironman, and am strongly considering it now, just for the tension , to reaaaaaly feel the dread of every loss. Am gonna do one, just considering when
Then you can slowly try harder difficulties.
I think it's pretty impossible for any strategy game to match the depth of storytelling of an rpg. rpg's are built entirely around telling a story, every quest is a story, dialogue and relationships between characters is part of the gameplay. In strategy games the story is mostly relegated to cut scenes. The gameplay itself is about beating missions, even the story missions. If you started inserting dialogue trees and character romances into a strategy game it would be awful. I thought XCOM 2 did a really good job of bringing the story into the gameplay with the postmortems after missions and all the readable content, it was an improvement over XCOM 1.
