no it doesn't.

As B said above, no. I would like to add how helpful they are on retaliation/terror missions. They reveal those 10ft tall slimy doppelganger guys instantly. (If in range of scan)

does it also cause them to go on the offensive? or do they not realise you see them?

Good question. I believe if they're out of sight range they don't move. Can't remember if they are in sight of your guys if they move. I want to say no?

It makes them active, but they won't move till the aliens get their turn. Since they can attack only after a blue move of 8 tiles (although their attack does have a 2 tile range instead of the usual 1 tile range for melee) as long as you stay more than 10 tiles from them you'll be fine.

they move regardless of you having or not having line of sight on them, the battle scanner won't activate them

Before you scan them they are civilians and do not move.

I don't use the scanners often but when I did on a terror mission the Faceless ran halfway across the map to get to me when revealed instead of attacking the civilians around them. Not sure if their AI allow them to attack civils at all since they are meant to be xcom traps. Specialist's Scanning Protocol also works but it force you to be a bit close to them since it's centered on you but you don't have to waste an equipment slot.

what are you talking about?

How do you think they walk into the players' line of sight?
The aliens actively patroling around the map regardless of player vision is a feature of the game actually.

The faceless become active upon reveal so that's normal

Faceless hide as civilians, they do not move, excepting when a unit causes them to flee by moving in their very close vicinity.

When you scan one, it shows a transforming animation and becomes a faceless unit that is active.

Faceless don't.

Fringehunter7719 my bad I thought we were talking about non-faceless before

Yeah, no worries, clearly just a minor crossing of wires.

Battlescanners also reveal burrowed cryssalids, these also will not directly attack unless within lin-of-sight of your troops.
